Overview:
This document provides technical specifications for wind sensors used in Automatic Weather Stations (AWS). The sensors are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and are equipped with self-regulating heating for operation in temperatures as low as -40 °C.
Wind Direction Sensor (Windfahne):
The wind direction sensor records the current wind direction and outputs a linear signal. It is storm-resistant and operates in temperatures from -40 °C to +70 °C. The sensor is made of aluminium, with a height of 181 mm and a length of 226.4 mm. It mounts on a steel mast with a maximum outside diameter of 50 mm and a minimum inside diameter of 37 mm. The protection class is IP 64, and the output is 4-20 mA for 0-360°.
Wind Speed Sensor (Cup Anemometer):
The cup anemometer measures wind speed and outputs a linear signal (4-20 mA). It is also storm-resistant and operates in the same temperature range as the direction sensor. The anemometer is made of aluminium, with a height of 130 mm and a diameter of 212 mm. It mounts on a steel mast with the same diameter specifications as the direction sensor. The protection class is IP 64, and the output is 4-20 mA for 0-75 m/s.
Application and Standards:
The sensors are used in AWS to collect climatic data for hydrology and energy balance calculations. These data support hydrological predictions, water balance research, and natural resource management. Data is stored in a data logger and can be transmitted via various networks. SEBA sensors comply with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standards and are continuously improved.
Automatic Weather Station Configuration:
A typical AWS configuration includes a weather-proof enclosure with a data logger, rechargeable battery, optional telemetry, meteorological sensors, solar panels, and a mast. The configuration may vary based on the system's purpose.
