DischargeKeeper Reference Projects - 1

DischargeKeeper Reference Projects The DischargeKeeper is an innovative product for the continuous optical measurement of water level, surface velocity and discharge in rivers, irrigation furrows and wastewater channels. The DischargeKeeper consists of an IP-camera, an infrared beamer as well as processing and transmission units. This non-intrusive measurement system can be mounted on existing structures in a versatile way.

AARESCHLUCHT / SWITZERLAND This measurement system is installed in a mountainous catchment and the flow is strongly impacted by existing hydropower facilities, which is revealed by the fact that water level and discharge often exhibit very strong variations over the course of a few hours. The hydropower facilities adapt their power production to match the marker’s demand, causing extreme variations in the river’s water flow rate. The shores at the location where the system is installed are not clearly defined. Therefore, the water level detection is performed with an external water level...

BUERGLEN / SWITZERLAND This DischargeKeeper is measuring on a weir in a mountainous catchment. Because of the width of the river (ca. 60 m) a PTZ system is installed. Floods are common at this location and the river can have an important sediment load. The PTZ camera also allows to monitor the surroundings and verify measurements during flood events. The water level detection is performed optically in a dedicated view and the velocity as well. BURALA / PAKISTAN This DischargeKeeper was installed in the framework of the InoCotton Grow project, which its objective is to reduce the water...

COYA / CHILE The system is located in the O’Higgins region in Chile, it is a mountainous river which is regulated. It is inside of a mining area which has strong regulations which restricts the type of system which can be installed. The river flows into a 9 meter wide channel, and at that point is where the DischargeKeeper is measuring the flow. It has a bullet camera and a radar sensor for measuring the water level. The volumetric flow is normally is just some hundreds of liters per second. ECHTERNACH / LUXEMBOURG This DischargeKeeper is measuring the inflow into a wastewater treatment...

HAGNECK / SWITZERLAND This DischargeKeeper is measuring a few 100 m upstream of a dam. Because of the activity of the dam, there is a transient backwater curve and no rating curve. The water level is measured optically, which is quite challenging when the water is not flowing rapidly, as the blocks on the fare shore are mirrored on the water surface. This effect led to the development of a special optical water level detection method. A PTZ camera is installed, with dedicated level and velocity views. Internet and mains power are available. ISELSHAUSEN / GERMANY The DischargeKeeper is...

MARTINA / SWITZERLAND This DischargeKeeper is located in a mountainous catchment, which is highly impacted by the activity of hydro-power plants. Therefore, the dynamics of the river flow rate exhibit important variations. The water level is optically measured on the gauge with a dedicated view, but the transparency of the water decreases the robustness of the measurement. Therefore, an external sensor is used to add redundancy to the water level measurement. MEKONG / VIETNAM Within a research project a feasibility study was performed with regard to measuring the flow velocity at the Mekong...

MONTLINGEN / SWITZERLAND This DischargeKeeper is a PTZ system installed on the Rhine river in Swizerland. At this location, the Rhine is around 100 m wide. Therefore, three views are necessary to measure the entire velocity field over the cross-section. As this is an entirely optical system, a view configured on the side is dedicated to measuring the water level. Mains power and LAN internet are available. Measured discharges here range from several hundred m3/s to more than 1000 m3/s. MORGENTAL / SWITZERLAND This DischargeKeeper is installed on a wastewater treatment plant just after...

PEISSENBERG / GERMANY The DischargeKeeper is measuring the discharge of a 20 meter wide and 1 meter deep river. The camera is mounted at the wall of the hydrometric station as well as the infrared bea- mer. Since the river is relatively narrow, a bullet camera was installed. The station has mains power and a good Internet connection. SASA / NORTH MACEDONIA This DischargeKeeper is located in a 5 km long tunnel under a mining facility in Northern Macedonia. The cross-section of the site is well-defined and the DischargeKeeper can nicely cope with the sidewalk on the side. A bullet camera is...
