Introduction to X-Ray Sources X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) is a routine surface analysis technique used to quantitatively analyse the chemical composition of the surface of a sample. For such studies two types of X-ray source exist the 'twin anode1 X-ray source for high speed, large area XPS and the 'monochromated' X-ray source for ultimate energy resolution.
