SEL-2241 Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC)

Product catalog summary
Overview: The SEL-2241 RTAC module is a vital component of the SEL Axion system, acting as the system CPU with extensive communication and logic capabilities. It is powered by the Axion backplane and includes a front panel with status LEDs and communication connectors.
Mechanical Installation: The SEL-2242 chassis/backplane has ten slots, with Slot A reserved for the SEL-2241 RTAC module. Installation requires aligning the module with the chassis and securing it with a retaining screw.
Connections: The RTAC includes multiple communication ports, such as Ethernet and USB, for web access and settings configuration. It is important to avoid connecting two RTACs via USB to a single PC. The module also has four nonisolated serial ports configurable via software.
Outputs: The RTAC's outputs are designed to manage inductive loads without welding closed. Configuration is done through the ACSELERATOR RTAC software, allowing for alias tag names and status initialization.
Field Serviceability: Firmware and custom programming can be upgraded in the field or remotely. Self-tests and diagnostic alarms assist in identifying errant conditions.
Module Replacement: Detailed steps are provided for replacing the RTAC module, including backing up settings, de-energizing power sources, and reconnecting communications cables.
Real-Time Clock Battery Replacement: The RTAC's real-time clock battery is a field-replaceable 3V lithium coin cell with a nominal life of ten years. Replacement involves disassembling the module to access the battery.
Specifications: The RTAC operates within a temperature range of -40° to +85°C and supports various communication protocols. It features robust security measures, including encrypted communication and intrusion detection.
Environmental and Type Tests: The RTAC has undergone extensive testing for environmental resilience, including vibration, shock, and temperature extremes, as well as electromagnetic compatibility and immunity tests.
Certifications: The product is designed and manufactured under an ISO 9001 certified quality management system. It is also certified under UL/cUL standards NRAQ, NRAQ7 per UL508, and C22.2 No. 14.
Intellectual Property: All brand or product names are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective holders. SEL trademarks require written permission for use. SEL products may be covered by U.S. and foreign patents.
Rights and Legal Notices: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. reserves all rights under federal and international copyright and patent laws, including software, firmware, and documentation. The information is for informational use only and may change without notice. The approved language for this document is English.
Warranty: The product is covered by the standard SEL 10-year warranty. For details, visit the SEL website or contact customer service.

SEL-2241 Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC)-1

SEL-2241 Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) Each SEL Axion® system requires an RTAC module to serve as the system CPU. The SEL-2241 RTAC has all of the communications and custom logic capabilities of the stand-alone RTAC modules, but is mounted in and receives power from the Axion backplane. Mechanical Installation The following figure shows the RTAC status LEDs that aid system troubleshooting and the connectors for communications and wiring. Each SEL-2242 chassis/backplane has ten slots, labeled A through J. Only Slot A supports the SEL-2241 RTAC module. RTAC ENABLED ALARM 1 Notch for Module Alignment SEL-2241 RTAC Front Panel, Copper Ethernet Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. To install the RTAC, tip the top of the module away from the chassis, align the notch on the bottom of the module (shown in Figure 2) with Slot A of the chassis, and place the module on the bottom lip of the chassis as Figure 3 illustrates. The module is aligned properly when it rests entirely on the lip of the chassis.

Connections Communications Ports NOTE: Never connect two RTACs via USB to one PC. Proper Module Placement Next, carefully rotate the module into the chassis, making sure that the alignment pin fits into the corresponding slot at the top of the chassis (refer to Figure 4). Finally, press the module firmly into the chassis and tighten the chassis retaining screw. All web access, settings changes and ODBC connections use either the RTAC Ethernet ports or the front USB type B port. Until you have configured the Ethernet interfaces on the RTAC, you will need to use the supplied USB type B cable to...
