Product catalog summary
Overview
The FiberOptic 7010 is an economic solution designed for precision cutting of Kevlar strength members in optical fiber cables. It is lightweight and easy to handle, making it suitable for various industrial applications.
Technical Specifications
  • Maximum Cable Diameter: 4.5 mm (0.18 inches)
  • Shortest Length of Remaining Kevlar: 3 mm (0.12 inches)
  • Cycle Time: Minimum 3 seconds, depending on the number of strokes
  • Power Supply: Compressed air requirement of 0.5 – 0.7 MPa (75 – 105 psi), with a consumption of 0.12 l/stroke (0.01 ft³/stroke)
  • Dimensions: Cutting machine - 600 x 75 x 130 mm (23.6 x 3.0 x 5.1 inches); Vacuum system - Ø 200 x 500 mm (Ø 7.87 x 19.69 inches)
  • Weight: Cutting machine - 3.0 kg (6.6 lbs); Vacuum system - 6.5 kg (14.4 lbs)
Compliance
The FiberOptic 7010 complies with all CE and EMC equipment guidelines for mechanical and electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility.
Concept and Operation
The machine efficiently cuts and removes Kevlar fibers, which are difficult to cut with standard tools. It uses a patented system to draw Kevlar into the cutting head, where it is severed. A vacuum system with a micro-pore filter ensures safe disposal of fibers, preventing respiratory hazards. The cutting process is initiated pneumatically, and the number of strokes can be adjusted based on material thickness.
Integration in Processing Line
After cutting, the fiber optic cable jacket is partially stripped with the UniStrip 2545 and removed manually. The FiberOptic 7010 handles the severing and disposal of fibers, while subsequent stripping of buffer and coating is done with FiberStrip 7030 or 7035 machines.
Setup and Operation
  • Select the cutting length of the remaining Kevlar fiber using the adjustable stop.
  • Adjust the distance between the cutting blade and anvil based on the length of the projecting buffered fiber.
  • Insert the cable to the stop and press the foot pedal halfway to activate the vacuum system.
  • Depress the foot pedal fully to initiate the cutting process. Repeat if necessary.
  • Release the foot pedal to automatically switch off the vacuum system.
Application
The FiberOptic 7010 is suitable for processing all cables containing a Kevlar strength member.

Concept The FiberOptic 7010 Kevlar cutting machine cuts and removes Kevlar fibers from optical fiber wires. Kevlar, used as a strength member, is very hard to cut with common tools, such as scissors. The patented system easily separates and draws the Kevlar into the cutting head, where it is severed. An efficient vacuum system with a micro pore filter disposes of the separated Kevlar, ensuring that no fibers can reach the respiratory organs. The built-in vacuum system separates the Kevlar strands from the fiber optic wire and positions them in the cutting head. A pneumatic initiated stroke of...
