Xmercury Split Preheater System

Xmercury Split Preheater System

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The cement industry is the second largest source of mercury emissions, primarily due to the presence of mercury in raw materials and fuels used in cement production. Mercury emissions are a significant concern due to their health impacts, and the industry faces regulatory limits on these emissions.

Mercury Emission Challenges
Mercury enters the cement production process through raw materials and fuels, including alternative fuels that may increase mercury levels. Mercury emissions are complex, involving various mercury compounds, including gaseous elemental mercury, particle-bound mercury, and oxidized mercury.

Mercury Cycle in Cement Production
The mercury cycle involves the continuous feed of mercury through fuels and raw materials, its evaporation in the raw mill, and condensation in the preheater, leading to emissions through the stack.

Xmercury Split Preheater Technology
The Xmercury system is an innovative solution designed to reduce mercury emissions with low investment and operating costs. It involves a second preheater line where hot gases are extracted and mixed with kiln filter dust to evaporate mercury. The mercury-free dust is returned to the main preheater, while the mercury-laden gas is treated with sorbents to capture mercury before being reintegrated into the main gas stream.

System Efficiency and Benefits
The Xmercury system has demonstrated impressive results, achieving up to 80% reduction in emissions. It is energy-efficient, requires low additive consumption, and incurs low disposal costs. The system is easy to operate and integrates seamlessly into existing processes, handling only 3-10% of the total gas flow.

Case Study: W&P Zement Plant
The first installation of the Xmercury system at W&P Zement's plant in Wietersdorf, Austria, has been operational since 2015, showcasing the system's effectiveness and low operating costs. The technology was developed through a collaboration between Scheuch GmbH and A TEC Production & Services GmbH.

Conclusion
The Xmercury system offers a robust solution for reducing mercury emissions in the cement industry, combining efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and ease of operation.

TIME FOR A CHANGE FACING THE EFFECTS OF MERCURY The cement industry has been identified as second largest gaseous emission source of mercury just behind the conventional combustion of coal in thermal power and heating plants as well as in heating systems. Due to the health effects of mercury exposure, industrial and commercial uses are regulated in many countries worldwide. Mercury is treated as an occupational hazard: A challenge the cement industry is facing every single day – since mercury is present in raw materials and/or in the fuel used in the combustion process. So Mercury enters the...

BREAKING THE MERCURY CIRCLE XMERCURY – THE INNOVATIVE SPLIT PREHEATER TECHNOLOGY As the reduction of mercury emissions in the cement industry is eith er linked to high operating costs for fuel and raw material cleaning, flue gas sorbents, or investment costs for flue gas treatment systems, it has been decided to propose a new system combining low investment costs as well as lowest operating costs and minimized ecological footprint. concentration of mercury in the material split preheater water cooling sorbent dosing sorbent bagfilter loaded sorbent The Xmercury split preheater system implemented...

REDUCING EMISSIONS HOW XMERCURY WORKS The Xmercury system is designed as a second preheater line with the following basic principle: A small amount of hot gases is extracted from the lower part of the main preheater. The kiln filter dust (CKD) which is rich in Hg is mixed with the hot gases in the split preheater whereby the Hg evaporates. The hot dust – free of Hg – is separated by high efficiency cyclones and by the special designed hot gas filter. So finally the dust is directly returned to the main preheater and remains in the process without heat losses. Afterwards the dust free gas stream,...
