Overview: The document is a technical brochure from Schaltbau GmbH, focusing on their range of snap-action switches designed for reliability and safety in industrial applications. It highlights features, specifications, and applications of various switch series, emphasizing their double safety mechanism and suitability for extreme conditions.
Double Safety: Schaltbau's snap-action switches feature double-break contacts and positive opening operation, ensuring fail-safe performance even if contacts weld together or the snap mechanism fails. This design has been proven over 40 years and is ideal for systems requiring high functional safety.
Specifications: The switches are characterized by a snap-action mechanism for fast and reliable switching, capable of handling high electrical loads with a long operational life of up to 10 million cycles. They comply with IEC 60947-5-1 standards and are available with silver or gold contacts based on application needs.
Series Overview: Detailed specifications are provided for series such as S800, S804, S814, S826, S926, S820, S834, S840, S847, S870, S970, S880, and S850. Each series has unique features tailored to specific industrial needs, including different contact materials, actuator types, and protection ratings.
Variants for Extreme Conditions: For harsh environments, Schaltbau offers switches with ruggedized housings made from high-performance thermoplastics like polyetherimide (PEI), providing better resistance to temperature extremes, chemicals, and impact. These variants can replace standard switches without additional implementation effort.
Key Features: The switches feature high electrical switching capacity, short bounce times, and self-cleaning contacts. They are designed to withstand shock and vibration and are available with ingress protection ratings up to IP67.
Applications: Schaltbau's snap-action switches are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, including railway engineering and systems requiring high reliability and safety. They are effective in controlling both control currents and loads with precision.
Series Specifics:
  • Series S826: Features ruggedized housing made from PEI, suitable for harsh environments, with compliance to IEC 60947-5-1, positive opening operation, IP40 protection, and optional magnetic blowout.
  • Series S834: Designed for manual control units in industrial robots, featuring a 3-position switch, positive opening operation, IP50 protection, and self-cleaning contacts.
  • Series S820: Offers enhanced current-carrying capacity (Ith = 20 A), suitable for higher load applications, with high resistance to shock and vibration.
  • Series S847: Modular design with self-cleaning double-break contacts, available in IP40, IP60, and IP67 protection levels.
  • Series S840: Single-break snap-action switches with positive opening operation, suitable for low electric loads.

WE GUARANTEE DOUBLE SAFETY According to the internationally accepted rules of scuba diving it is not allowed for safety reasons to dive without a buddy (second diver). Likewise, Schaltbau has developed such a buddy for the micro switch since 1975: a snap-action switch with double-break contacts and positive opening operation, which guarantees that the contacts will open, even when they have become welded together or the spring of the snap mechanism has broken. So there is a reliable alternative to the micro switch – the switch with double safety from Schaltbau.
