Single Row Ball Roller Bearings

Product catalog summary
Product Overview
Single row ball roller bearings, developed by Schaeffler Group Industrial, are a new generation of rolling bearings. They feature a unique design that minimizes the ball size necessary for load transmission, resulting in a narrower rolling element called the ball roller. These bearings are versatile, self-retaining, and available in both open and sealed designs.
Features
Ball roller bearings bridge the gap between ball bearings and roller bearings, offering a robust and easy-to-maintain solution. They conform to DIN 625 dimensions, allowing use in standard design envelopes. Despite their small cross-section, they have a high load carrying capacity, surpassing series 63 bearings.
Load Carrying Capacity
These bearings support moderate axial loads in both directions and very high radial loads. They achieve a high degree of filling with up to 50% more rolling elements than deep groove ball bearings, thanks to special assembly technology.
Friction and Misalignment
Ball roller bearings have low frictional torque due to the large number of rolling elements, enhancing performance. However, their angular adjustment capability is limited, necessitating well-aligned bearing positions to avoid additional loads.
Comparison with Other Bearings
Compared to deep groove ball bearings and cylindrical roller bearings, ball roller bearings offer good radial and axial load carrying capacity, are suitable for high speeds, and exhibit good friction behavior.
Sealing and Lubrication
Available with gap seals or lip seals, open bearings can be lubricated with grease or oil, while sealed bearings are greased for life. The larger grease chamber makes them maintenance-free for many applications.
Operating Temperature and Stability
Open bearings and those with gap seals operate from -40°C to +120°C, while lip-sealed bearings are suitable up to +110°C. They are heat-treated for dimensional stability up to +120°C.
Applications
Ideal for applications with small design envelopes, high radial loads, and moderate axial loads, these bearings are used in electric motors, washing machines, chain saws, industrial gearboxes, and general machine building.
Design and Safety Guidelines
The dynamic load carrying capacity is determined by the material's fatigue behavior, described by the basic dynamic load rating and basic rating life. The equivalent dynamic bearing load is calculated for combined loads, and static load carrying capacity is considered for very high static or shock loads.
Static Load Carrying Capacity
Emphasizes checking the static load safety factor (S0) to ensure security against permanent deformations. The basic radial static load rating (C0) and equivalent static bearing load (P0) are crucial parameters.
Axial Load Carrying Capacity
Bearings should not exceed Fa = 0.5 · C0 to avoid reduced operating life. For alternating axial loads, consultation with Schaeffler is recommended.
Minimum Radial Load
To prevent slippage, a minimum radial load of P/Cr ≥ 0.02 is necessary for continuous operation, especially at high speeds and accelerations.
Speed Suitability and Running Noise
Ball roller bearings have a speed parameter of n · dm = 600,000, limiting their speed compared to deep groove ball bearings. Despite many rolling elements, running noise is comparable to standard deep groove ball bearings.
Design of Bearing Arrangements
Recommended shaft and housing tolerances are detailed in the HR 1 Catalogue. Main dimensions align with DIN 625-1, and tolerances with DIN 620. Bearings with different tolerance classes are available by agreement.
Radial Internal Clearance
The radial internal clearance corresponds to group CN to DIN 620-4, with other clearances available by agreement.
Chain Saw Crankshaft Bearing Arrangement
Describes a chain saw driven by a two-stroke engine, with crankshaft main bearings being open deep groove ball bearings 6202. The design is revised to support increased power without changing bearing dimensions.
Design Solution
Existing bearings are replaced by BXRE202 series ball roller bearings, increasing the basic radial dynamic load rating by 39% and the basic rating life by 2.5 times. The static load safety factor is 2.5, above the required value of 2. The new design avoids costs associated with redesigning the adjacent construction.
Lubrication
Bearings are lubricated by a petrol/oil mix, with lubricant starvation present due to the mix ratio of 1:50.

Single row ball roller bearings Features A new generation of rolling bearings The single row ball roller bearing BXRE from Schaeffler Group Industrial represents a completely new generation of rolling bearings. This type follows the simple and progressive design philosophy of reducing the ball as a standard rolling element to only what is necessary for transmitting the load. On both sides of the ball, the areas not involved in transmitting load were therefore removed. The result is a new geometry and a narrower rolling element than the classical ball, the ball roller. This gives a versatile,...

Single row ball roller bearings Radial and axial load carrying capacity Due to the raceway geometry and the rolling elements, ball roller bearings can support moderate axial loads in both directions as well as very high radial loads. High degree of filling The good radial load carrying capacity is achieved by the fact that the bearing contains up to 50% more rolling elements compared to a deep groove ball bearing. For example, the deep groove ball bearing 6207 contains nine rolling elements, while the comparable size BXRE207 contains fourteen. In order to achieve the high degree of filling of...

Single row ball roller bearings Design and safety guidelines Dynamic load carrying capacity and life Basic rating life The fatigue behaviour of the material determines the dynamic load carrying capacity of a rolling bearing. The dynamic load carrying capacity is described in terms of the basic dynamic load rating and the basic rating life L10 or L10h in accordance with DIN ISO 281. The fatigue life is dependent on: ■ the load ■ the operating speed ■ the statistical probability of the first appearance of failure. For rotating rolling bearings, the decisive parameter is the basic dynamic load rating...

Equivalent dynamic bearing load Load ratio and equivalent dynamic bearing load The equivalent dynamic bearing load P is a calculated value. This value is constant in magnitude and direction; it is a radial load for radial bearings and an axial load for axial bearings. If the load P is used, this gives the same rating life as the combined load occurring in practice. For bearings under dynamic loading, the following applies: Load ratio Equivalent dynamic bearing load P N Equivalent dynamic bearing load for combined load Fa N Axial dynamic bearing load Fr N Radial dynamic bearing load e – Calculation...

Single row ball roller bearings Operating life The operating life is defined as the life actually achieved by the bearing. It may differ significantly from the calculated value. Due to the wide variety of possible installation and operating conditions, it is not possible to precisely predetermine the operating life. The most reliable way of arriving at a close estimate is by comparison with similar applications. Static load carrying capacity Very high static loads or shock loads can cause plastic deformation on the raceways and rolling elements. This deformation limits the static load carrying...

Minimum radial load In order to ensure operation without slippage, the bearings must be subjected to a minimum load Fr min in a radial direction. This applies particularly in the case of high speeds and high accelerations. In continuous operation, a minimum radial load of the order of P/Cr Ͼ 0,02 is therefore necessary. Speed suitability Ball roller bearings have a speed parameter of n · dm = 600 000 and therefore do not permit speeds as high as those of comparable deep groove ball bearings. Running noise Despite the large number of rolling elements, the running noise is comparable with that...
