Product catalog summary
Pole-Top Sensors Overview
The document discusses the SATEC PM17x series pole-top sensors designed for smart grid deployment. These sensors are intended to replace existing pole isolators with voltage and current sensors for medium voltage (MV) grids of 15kV, 25kV, or 35kV. They are designed for distribution automation, offering compact and economical power-line sensing without the need for line cutting. The sensors provide linear outputs up to fault levels and ensure accurate performance with non-hazardous voltage on output, being completely sealed against moisture.
Advantages of Sensor Monitoring
The sensors offer precise real-time measurements and support the DNP3.0 protocol with GPRS communication. They feature a local display, memory redundancy, waveform and power quality features, phasors and phase rotation, directional harmonics, and neutral currents. The complete total cabinet package allows for expandability and helps manage line losses, capacitor controls, voltage regulation, outage detection, load balance, harmonics, fault location, and power theft.
Sensor Specifications
  • Electrical Ratings: Insulation classes are available for 15kV, 25kV, and 35kV networks with impulse ratings of 110kV, 150kV, and 200kV respectively. The sensors have specific leakage and dry arc distances, overall heights, and corona extinction voltages.
  • Current Signal Output: The ratio is 600A:10V, calibrated for a 10,000 ohm or greater load, with an open circuit voltage of 10 volts at 600 amps line current.
  • Voltage Signal Output: The divider ratio depends on the network, with output impedance calibrated for a 1 MΩ load.
  • Accuracy: Sensor native accuracy is 2% for current and 1% for voltage, with SATEC PM17x calibration achieving Class 0.5s.
  • Mechanical Specifications: The sensors have a cantilever strength of 2,800 lbs (1270 kg) and vary in weight depending on the insulation class. They are designed for vertical mounting only.
  • Operating Temperature: The temperature range is from -40°C to +65°C (-40°F to +149°F).
  • Conductor Diameter Range: The sensors can accommodate conductor diameters from 0.25” to 1.25” (6.35mm to 31.75mm).
  • Basic Construction: The sensors are molded from polysil, a high dielectric strength, anti-tracking polymer concrete.
Order String
For ordering, the strings are PTS 15 for 15kV, PTS 25 for 25kV, and PTS 35 for 35kV networks.
