Parallel Index Description The P series is the ideal indexing unit for high-speed applications requiring few stops, such as conveyors with relatively long feed pitches or long dwell periods. This indexing unit uses two parallel plate cams on the input shaft to impart intermittent motions to the cam followers mounted to a spider turret on the output shaft. One, two, three or four incremental output stops can be produced with one input shaft revolution. Sankyo's original uneven-pitch parallel cam increases load capacity and accuracy. Accuracy, speed performance, and reliability make the P series the ideal intermittent indexing mechanism for today's industrial machinery. Shaft extensions can be configured to accommodate motor drives, timing cam packages or adjustable output torque limiting clutches. Our PE/E series has an internal oscillating cam to supply fifteen, thirty or forty-five degree motion with only partial revolution of the input shaft. The PL series offers a shaft to center pilot & a flanged output for mounting dials or sprockets without hubs. Optional air/spring cam balancers offset the output torque to reduce vibration and motor torque for high torque or high speed applications. The PX units offer special options such as low internal inertia, shaft and housing configurations with conjugal or cantilevered type cams. All units are bi-directional allowing indexing or oscillating motions without performance concessions. 1 to 8 incremental output stops, 1-dwell cam equals: 1 output stop to 1 input shaft revolution (1 & 2 dwells offered) 90° to 330° index periods in 30° increments with modified sine or constant velocity cam curves (MS, MCV25 or MVC50) Standard PE/E series oscillating angles are 15°, 30° & 45° requiring 30 to 90 degrees of input rotation Maximum of 300 cycles per minute (specials over 700-cpm), bi-directional indexing or oscillating motions ±60 arcsec accuracy, 60 arcsec repetitive, 2-dwell ±120, 60 repetitive (P40 & P50 are less accurate due to the miniature size) Painted cast iron housings are available in 12 standard sizes ranging from 40 to 400mm input to output shaft centers Output turret configurations: shaft (standard), shaft with flange, torque limiting clutch, cam balancer or special low inertia for high speed Index mounts in any position with right angle gearmotor mounting in 90° increments on either side of the index, P40, P50 & reducers are grease filled for mounting in any position, UL & CE certified (brake motor or wash down optional) Variable frequency drive controller utilizes electronic braking and variable speed for gearmotors in 115-1ph, 230-1/3ph, 460-3ph volts, 50/60 Hz, UL & CE certified Timing belt driven inline gearmotor can be mounted over or beside the housing (clutch/brake or servo drives optional) Output torque limiting clutch option features quick-adjust torque settings to protect the index and an IP65 proximity type overload sensor package can detect when the torque limit is exceeded Optional IP50 photo eye timing cam sensor package supplies dial “in position” signal to stop the motor (IP65 proximity type optional) Standard timing cams are steel with IP50 photo Hollow bore right angle gearmotors or eye sensors multiple sensor can interlock support timing belt driven inline gearmotors can machine crashes (IP65 proximity sensors optional) be mounted in 90° increments Variable frequency drives controllers use electronic braking to stop the index motor consistently even if the speed is changed. Multiple speed patterns can be used to jog for easy setup. E-stops can occur without tripping the output torque limiter clutch due to the soft stopping feature. Continuous Output torque limiters protect the index unit & offer duty cycles can be simulated while running cycle on demand easy adjust torque ranges for shaft or flange interface by lengthening the dwell time since the speed can be changed (IP65 overload proximity sensor optional) on the fly with every cycle.
