System Overview

The Smart Grid SMS™ Storage Management System interfaces between a stored power source and the utility grid. It includes a master control system and a 2-MW/2.5-MVA power conversion system (PCS) with two inverters, each rated at 1 MW/1.25 MVA. The system can charge or discharge the storage device and supply VARs or maintain feeder voltage. It can operate independently or in parallel up to 10.0 MW/12.5 MVA.

Applications
  • UPS for Data Centers: High-capacity static inverter pack for medium voltage, capable of powering complete data center loads.
  • Renewable Energy: Stores power from solar and wind energy for generation ramp-rate control, output-smoothing, or time-shifting.
  • Grid-Scale Energy Storage: Delivers up to 2 MW of stored energy to the grid.
  • Islanding: Provides energy during power outages with IntelliTEAM SG, serving local customers for up to 7 hours.
  • Peak Shaving: Provides full output for up to 7 hours during high demand periods.
System Specifications
  • Current Source AC Ratings: Power nominal per inverter is 21 MW (charge) to 11 MW (discharge), with a voltage of 480 Vac ±10%.
  • Voltage Source AC Ratings: Maximum power is 2.0 MW, with a voltage of 480 Vac ±3%.
  • DC Input Ratings: Voltage ranges from 460 Vdc to 800 Vdc, with current in current source mode from 21145 A dc (charge) to 1150 A dc (discharge).
  • Environmental Ratings: Operates in temperatures from -40°C to 40°C without derating, with a maximum altitude of 1000 meters.
Design and Installation

The SMS is designed for outdoor applications with configurations of 2.0 MW/2.5 MVA per ISO container. It includes DC switchgear, master controls, and inverters housed in a 27-foot enclosure.
