Overview
S&C's M Series Switch Operators are advanced microprocessor-based systems designed to automate both new and existing overhead distribution switches. These operators integrate electromechanical components, RTU, control circuitry, and communications, enhancing reliability and flexibility while reducing installation costs. They are available for both reciprocating and rotating-drive distribution switches.
Switch Operation and Protection
Unlike basic motor-driven operators, M Series Switch Operators monitor the entire open-close cycle and can automatically address issues such as stuck or welded contacts. They support a variety of communication devices for remote monitoring and control via SCADA systems, using protocols like DNP 3.0 and PG&E SCADA.
Software and Setup
The operators run on a sophisticated operating system, ensuring reliability and maintainability. Setup is user-friendly, requiring a PC connection to the DB9 serial port and the use of IntelliLink® Setup Software. Remote operations can be managed through the WinMon® Graphical User Interface.
Power Supply and Battery System
The integrated power supply eliminates issues associated with multiple power sources. It features temperature-compensated battery charging to extend battery life, with automatic testing to prevent improper operation due to low battery voltage.
Optional Features
Optional radio faulted circuit indicators allow for fault isolation without expensive sensors. Voltage and current sensing options provide RMS readings and fault detection, enabling features like automatic sectionalizing and protection against single-phasing.
Data Logging
Data logging capabilities include monitoring control voltage, enclosure temperature, and system voltage and current. This data aids in circuit analysis and system planning, with accurate time-stamping provided by a crystal-controlled clock.
