Introduction
PARADRIVE™ Oldham couplings are designed for motion control applications, featuring a three-piece construction with two hubs and a center disk. The center disk, available in acetal for high torsional stiffness or nylon for vibration absorption, transmits torque through mating slots oriented 90 degrees apart. This design accommodates parallel misalignment and provides electrical isolation, acting as a mechanical fuse in case of failure.
Materials and Surface Finish
Torque disks are made from Acetal or Nylon 11, while hubs are crafted from 2024 T351 or 7075 T651 aluminum. Hubs feature a Type II sulfuric anodized finish for enhanced durability.
Hardware Specifications
Socket head cap screws and forged socket set screws are made from heat-treated alloy steel, meeting ASA and ASTM specifications. Torque ratings for clamp and set screws are provided in both inch and metric units.
Temperature and Speed Ratings
The operational temperature range is -10°F to 150°F for Acetal disks and -10°F to 130°F for Nylon 11 disks. The maximum operational speed is 4,500 rpm.
Installation Instructions- Ensure shaft misalignment is within coupling ratings.
- Align hubs on shafts with drive tenons facing each other.
- Rotate hubs 90° apart.
- Fit a torque disk over the drive tenons and center it.
- Insert a shim for axial motion rating.
- Slide the second hub's tenons into the disk groove.
- Tighten screws to recommended torque.
- Remove shim to allow axial movement.
Performance and Limitations
Couplings can handle angular misalignment up to 0.5°. Performance ratings are for guidance, and users must determine suitability for specific applications. The warranty covers size and material specifications, with limitations on liability to the purchase price.
Ordering Information
To order a complete coupling, select two hubs and one disk. For example, order OCT16-4-A, OCT16-6-A, and OD16/25-AT for a coupling with a 1" OD and zero backlash disk.
