Ruland Beam Couplings

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Ruland Manufacturing Co., Inc. has been producing high-quality products since 1937, including Flexbeam™ Flexible Beam Couplings, designed for applications requiring misalignment accommodation between two shafts.
Product Specifications
Flexbeam™ couplings are available in three series with both inch and metric bores, ranging from 3/8" (6mm) to 1-1/2" (38mm). They are machined from a single piece of aluminum or stainless steel and feature multiple spiral cuts for higher torque capabilities and reduced wind-up.
Flexbeam-2™ and Flexbeam-3™ Series
The Flexbeam-2™ series (P, I, and MW Series) and Flexbeam-3™ series (F and MF Series) have two sets of spiral slots, providing superior parallel misalignment capabilities. Flexbeam-3™ is ideal for light-duty power transmission, while Flexbeam-2™ is suited for precision applications with delicate components.
Materials and Finishes
Aluminum products are made from 7075-T651 extruded and drawn aluminum bar, while stainless steel products use 17-4 ph. Both materials have a bright finish.
Hardware and Temperature Range
Hardware includes alloy steel socket cap screws, heat-treated to meet ASA and ASTM specifications. The temperature range for aluminum is –40° F to 225° F, and for stainless steel, it is –40° F to 350° F.
Installation Instructions
1. Ensure shaft misalignment is within coupling ratings.
2. Align hubs on the shafts.
3. Tighten screws on one hub to recommended torque.
4. Rotate coupling by hand before tightening the second hub.
5. Ensure misalignment angle remains centered.
6. Shafts may extend into the relieved area without affecting performance.
Torque Ratings
Torque ratings for clamp and set screws are provided in both inch and metric units, with specific values for alloy and stainless steel.
Warranty and Liability
Ruland provides a warranty that products meet size and material specifications. Liability is limited to the purchase price, and Ruland disclaims all other warranties.
Ordering Information
Part numbers are formatted with numbers representing sixteenths of an inch, and users can choose any bore size available in a body size.
Performance Notes
Static torque ratings are at maximum misalignment, and dynamic ratings should be adjusted for non-reversing and reversing applications. Performance ratings are for guidance, and users must determine suitability for specific applications.
Specifications
The document provides detailed specifications for various types of couplings, including bore sizes, clamp styles, set screw styles, axial motion, parallel misalignment, static torque, wind-up, outer diameter, length, cap screw, and set screw specifications.
Procedures and Recommendations
Notes include the need to divide static ratings for dynamic applications, availability of stainless steel hardware upon request, and ensuring shafts do not touch. Performance ratings are for guidance only.
Performance and Limitations
Performance metrics such as moment of inertia and torsional stiffness are outlined. Angular misalignment on all couplings is 3º, and shafts may penetrate up to 0.5 x L.
Product Range and Customization
RULAND Manufacturing offers a wide range of sizes and styles, including shaft collars, clamping devices, beam couplings, bellows couplings, oldham couplings, rigid couplings, jaw couplings, and disc couplings. Custom designs are available upon request.
