Wrap spring clutches provide torque only in the direction in which they wrap down. This allows for overrunning. The EC25 Long-Life relies on relative motion between the input and output for engagement. Thus, the slower the speed, the longer the time until engagement. Due to the EC25LL's rapid acceleration, system inertia effects can be significant. In some applications a slip device or coupler may be used as a shock absorber. After spring wrap-down, the EC25LL will accelerate loads from zero to full speed in less than 3 milliseconds. The EC25LL provides 25 lb-in (2.83 N-m) oftotal load over a life of 1 million actuationswith an outside diameter of about 1.2 inches (30mm), and a shaft length of about 1 inch (27mm).
