Indústrias Romi S.A., established in 1930, is a leading Brazilian industrial company operating in four main sectors: machine tools, plastic injection molding machines, high-precision adjustable boring systems, and cast and machined parts. The Romi Foundry division supports these markets with a strong industrial infrastructure comprising seven manufacturing plants spanning 137,000 m² and employing around 2,000 professionals. The company has produced 130,000 machines, exporting 20,000 units globally, supported by 33 customer service offices in Brazil and 26 sales representatives across more than 20 countries.
The Romi Foundry operates a 26,500 m² plant equipped with modern electric induction furnaces, producing over 2,000 metric tons per month of high-quality gray and nodular iron castings. The melting area includes two induction furnaces: a 1,100 kW furnace with two 5-ton crucibles and a 3,500 kW furnace with two 10-ton crucibles. Castings comply with DIN 1691 standards (gray iron GG 15 to GG 30 and nodular iron GGG 40 to GGG 70) and equivalent ASTM, SAE, BS, and ABNT standards, as well as customer-specific requirements.
This line uses high-pressure molding with a quick mold change system and Statistical Process Control (SPC). It produces castings up to 60 kg with high dimensional accuracy at rates up to 100 molds per hour. Flask dimensions are 760 x 560 x 270 mm.
Two mechanized no-bake lines produce parts up to 500 kg (120 molds/day, flask size 1,050 x 800 x 500/750/1,000 mm) and up to 1,000 kg (30 molds/day, flask size 1,400 x 1,050 x 400/600/800 mm). Advanced handling and SPC ensure quality and cost efficiency.
This manual system supports large castings up to 25,000 kg. It features comprehensive material handling and skilled technicians, employing techniques such as pit molding and mold heat treatment with cooling curve analysis via thermocouples to enhance quality and reduce costs.
The foundry holds ISO 9002 certification since 1994 and certifications from major customers. Its laboratory is equipped with advanced instruments including optical spectrometers, tensile testing machines, carbon and sulfur analyzers, and ultrasonic testing equipment. All melts undergo strict physical and chemical testing before pouring. The foundry performs physical, chemical, metallographic tests, sample approvals, technical reporting, and provides ongoing technical assistance. Continuous material development aims to improve quality and reduce costs.
A qualified engineering team uses CAD and FMEA tools for tooling design and process optimization, managing sample development and ensuring compliance with international and customer standards. The in-house pattern shop produces prototypes and patterns in various materials (wood, cast iron, aluminum, resin, styrofoam) staffed by highly skilled personnel.
Romi Foundry offers machining services with advanced CNC turning and machining centers, supporting high-volume production and diverse product lines. Comprehensive technical assistance is provided throughout the manufacturing process to ensure quality and flexibility.
