Band brakes are dry friction brakes. Based on the required brake torque band brakes are the most economic solution of all friction brakes. They are used in winches and hoists (oil drilling, windlasses and metallurgy technology). The advantages of band brakes are obvious: High braking torques can be generated with light actuating forces.
