Product catalog summary
Introduction
The document provides information about the Swell Meter, an instrument used by Rigchina Group Co. to assess shale stability in drilling operations. It addresses common drilling problems such as stuck pipe, tight hole, washout, and sloughing, which are often related to shale stability.
Specifications and Functionality
The Swell Meter measures shale hydration or dehydration by tracking the change in length of shale cores over time. This test helps determine the appropriate mud system for drilling through specific shale formations. The test results are presented in graphs showing the percentage of swelling over time, demonstrating the effectiveness of various fluids in inhibiting shale swelling.
Standards and Compliance
Rigchina Group Co. provides a range of instruments for testing drilling fluids, compliant with American Petroleum Institute (API) standards, specifically API Recommended Practice 13B-1, 13B-2, and API Specification 13A.

Drilling Fluids SWELLING METER Drilling problems such as stuck pipe, tight hole, washout, and sloughing can be related to shale stability. Instrumentation used to determine if specific shales are likely to cause drilling and completion problems of the Swell Meter The RIGCHINA Swell Meter is an instrument used to determine shale hydration or dehydration by measuring the increase or decrease in length over time of reconstituted or intact shale core. The Swell Meter test is used to determine the recommended mud system for drilling through a specific shale formation. First, a Swell meter test is conducted to determine the correct inhibitor for the shale. Then, a variety of fluids are tested. Test results are graphed to show the percent of swelling versus swelling time in minutes. The Swell Meter test demonstrates the inhibitive effects of these various fluids on shale swelling. RIGCHINA Group Company offers a complete line of instruments for use in testing drilling fluids in accordance with the following American Petroleum Institute Publications: API Recommended Practice 13B-1, API Recommended Practice 13B-2, & API Specification 13A Contact Rigchina Group Company for more information on our complete line of Drilling Fluids Testing Equipment Call us today, or visit our website at www.rigchina.com Rigchina Group Co.
