Introduction to MFFT: The Minimum Film-Forming Temperature (MFFT) is the lowest temperature at which a paint or coating will uniformly coalesce on a substrate. The standard test for determining MFFT involves using a MFFT-BAR, adhering to standards such as ASTM D 2354 and ISO 2115.
Adhesives: The MFFT of one-pack adhesives is determined similarly to paints and coatings. For two-pack adhesives, a strip of aluminum foil can be used to ease cleaning. These adhesives do not show an MFFT, but the minimum cure temperature can be identified.
Running the Test: The instrument is set to the desired temperature program and allowed to reach thermal equilibrium. Wet test material is applied using a cube applicator, and results are visually apparent once the material has dried or cured.
Specifications: The instrument dimensions are 550 × 610 × 350mm, with a platen size of 483 × 235mm. It conforms to ASTM D 2354, ISO 2115, and DIN 53787 standards. The weight is 38kg, and it operates on 110–120V AC or 220–240V AC. Air and water specifications are also provided.
Standard Features: The MFFT–60 model includes six temperature programs ranging from -10°C to 60°C. It features a nickel-plated copper platen and a 75µm cube applicator.
Design: The MFFT-B features a touch screen interface, digital temperature calculation, and output to results labels. It includes a copper platen with a temperature gradient, monitored by built-in sensors. A hinged perspex cover provides insulation and allows visual inspection. An optional results label printer is available.
Options: The extended range model MFFT–90 offers three additional temperature programs, ranging from 43°C to 90°C, and includes a grooved platen option for specific standards.
