Rexrnord® Planetgear? Gear Drives

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Planetgear™ Planetary Gear Drives are designed for reliable performance with self-aligning planet carriers that ensure perfect gear train alignment. The design enhances load distribution and durability by transmitting torque through three contact points. Advanced heat-treating techniques provide hardened, wear-resistant gearing, and dual seals offer superior protection against contamination, maintaining lubricant integrity.
Accessories
Available accessories include internally mounted, oil-lubricated backstops, slidebases for chain tensioning, rigid scoops for motor alignment, and custom adapters for mounting configurations. Flanged motor mounts are available for various sizes, and large motors can be accommodated on sturdy baseplates.
Selection Procedures
Selection involves determining the equivalent output torque or horsepower by applying a service factor to the actual or specified values. The reducer must meet or exceed this capacity. Key considerations include operating temperature, thermal capacity, moment of inertia, lubrication, multi-speed selections, and backstops.
Motorized Selection
Motorized selections include scoop mount and C-face configurations. Rexnord Omega couplings are standard for scoop-mounted reducers. Selection involves determining service class, unit size, checking for overhung and thrust loads, and confirming dimensions.
Service Class Selections
Service classes are categorized by application type, service, and hours of operation, guiding the selection of reducers based on load factors and motor ratings.
Specifications
The document provides detailed specifications for reducers with standard input shafts, focusing on low-speed shaft torque ratings measured in 1000 lb-in for horizontal mounting. Specifications are based on 1170 RPM, NEMA B, T-Frame motors.
Procedures
The document outlines selection procedures for reducers, emphasizing the need for a cooling fan and shroud if the selection falls within a shaded area, particularly when the average ambient temperature is below 84°F.
Standards and Recommendations
It is recommended to contact Rexnord for application details if other motor types or specific requirements are needed.
Selection Tables
The document includes extensive selection tables for different service factors, detailing nominal reduction ratios, approximate output RPM, and corresponding motor horsepower and frame sizes.
Technical Information Overview
This document provides detailed technical specifications and guidelines for mechanical input horsepower ratings, coupling features, and load location factors for various equipment and configurations.
Maximum Mechanical Input HP Ratings
Tables reflect maximum mechanical input horsepower ratings at different RPMs, categorized by single, double, triple, quadruple, and quintuple reductions.
Coupling Features
The document highlights features of a specific coupling design, emphasizing rapid assembly/disassembly, equipment protection, vibration reduction, and lower maintenance costs.
Installation and Maintenance Procedures
The installation section emphasizes the importance of mounting reducers on a solid, level foundation, preferably horizontal, but vertical mounting is possible with an oil reservoir kit.
Reducer Lubrication
The document outlines the importance of selecting the correct lubricant for speed reducers based on ambient temperature conditions, recommending AGMA or ISO grade lubricants.
IEC Three-Phase Motors with Squirrel Cage Rotor
IEC standards specify motor outputs in kilowatts and dimensions in millimeters, providing a comparison of IEC and NEMA motor dimensions.
Company Overview
Rexnord provides high-quality, engineered products for industrial applications, emphasizing customer service and aiming to reduce maintenance costs and prevent equipment downtime.

Proven, Reliable Gear Performance With Planetgear reducers, self-aligning planet carriers float radially and axially to provide perfect alignment of the gear train. Unlike "traditional gears" which have only one point of contact per reduction, Planetgear transmits the torque through three points of contact between sun gears and planet gears. The floating gear train ensures equal loading among the three points. State of the art heat-treating techniques provide hardened, wear-resistant gearing. Three points of contact Traditional Gears — only one point of contact Superior Seal Protection How many...

SELECTION PROCEDURES General Selection Information INTRODUCTION Before a reducer can be selected for any application, the equivalent output torque or horsepower must be computed by multiplying the actual or specified torque or horsepower by the service factor (S.F.) for the particular load classification for which the unit is to be used. It is necessary that the unit selected have a capacity equal to or in excess of the equivalent output torque (lb-in) or horsepower. Reducers can be selected by Service Factor or Load Classification. Both Service Factors and Load Classifications are a means of...

SELECTION PROCEDURES Motorized Selection (Scoop Mount and C-face) Three classes designated by Roman Numerals I, II and III were established by NEMA to relate the package or "Drive" to a large variety of applications. These applications were classified by load factors and hours per day of use. A service classification table using this nomenclature for typical applications is located on pages 3 & 4. Reducer selections can be made based on applying these service classifications to specific motor ratings and speeds. Planetgear scoop mounted motor reducers are available for all reducer series with...
