PRM SERIES

PRM SERIES

Product catalog summary
Overview: The PRM Series offers high voltage and high surge capability in a cost-effective surface mount package. These pulse tolerant resistors are designed to withstand high energy pulses, making them superior to conventional film and wirewound types. They feature a ceramic core for improved thermal transfer and long-term stability, with flame-retardant molding for environmental performance.
Options: The series includes several options:
  • Option ER: Group A Screening per MIL-R-39008 RCR
  • Option B: Increased power
  • Option X: Non-inductive
Specifications:
  • Rated continuous voltage is calculated as √(PxR), not to exceed the listed value.
  • Pulse voltage capability depends on resistance value, waveform, and repetition rate.
  • Inductance levels can be specified with options for reduced inductance.
Performance Characteristics: The PRM series resistors are suitable for a variety of pulse applications such as telecom line feed resistors, snubber circuits, in-rush currents, capacitor charge/discharge circuits, and lightning surges. They are compliant with several standards including UL, ANSI/IEEE, and IEC.
Application Note: The resistors are designed to meet surge requirements and are verified under worst-case conditions. A safety factor is recommended for pulse applications, with specific derating factors available upon request.

PRM SERIES-1

PULSE RESISTORS, SURFACE MOUNT □ High voltage/ high surge capability □ Cost effective surface mount package □ Available on RCD’s exclusive SWIFT TM OPTIONS □ Option ER: Group A Screening per MIL-R-39008 RCR □ Option B: Increased power □ Option X: Non-inductive Pulse tolerant surface mount resistors! Series PRM withstand high energy pulses, and are superior to conventional film & wirewound types. The heavy duty construction features a ceramic core, enabling improved thermal transfer and long term stability. Elements are protected by flame-retardant molding for excellent environmental performance. Alpha-numeric marking is standard. PRM resistors are cost effective in a wide variety of pulse applications including telecom line feed resistors, snubber circuits, inrush currents, capacitor charge/discharge circuits, lightning surges, etc. 1 Rated continuous voltage = V(PxR), nte value listed. 2Pulse voltage capability is dependent on res.value, waveform, & repetition rate. 3 Expanded range available 4Miltiply by 0.7 on Opt.X parts SURGE CAPABILITY TYPICAL PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS Wattage Derating Options: X, ER, B (leave blank if std) Packaging: B = bulk, T = Tape & Reel * specify Opt.75 for induc levels 50% that of Opt.X, or Opt.76 for 33% that of Opt.X APPLICATION NOTE Use chart above to select model to meet desired surge level. Pulse not to exceed peak V & j ratings (derate 30% for Opt.X), and average power during repetitive pulses nte rated W. 30% safety factor is recommended for infrequent pulses, 50% typ. for repetitive pulses (request Note R42 for derating factors attributable to pulse width, rep. rate, temp., altitude, humidity). Verify by evaluating under worst-case conditions. Depending on specifics, PR series can often satisfy the surge requirements of UL-217, -268, -294, -497, -508, -913, -943, -991, -1459, -1971, ANSI/IEEE C62.41, CCITT (Rec.
