Product catalog summary
Introduction to PARALIGN® Technology
PARALIGN® is a roll alignment service utilizing advanced gyroscopic technology, similar to that used in spacecraft navigation systems. It employs three highly precise ringlaser gyroscopes to measure roll alignment with high accuracy, offering a resolution of 4µm/m. This technology allows for the calculation of roll misalignments in both vertical and horizontal planes relative to a reference roll.
Measurement Process
The PARALIGN® device is placed on a roll and moved around its rotation axis, or the roll is moved with the device attached. An angular range of 20° is sufficient to determine the roll's position in space. The system automatically filters out defective measurement points and transmits data wirelessly to a laptop for analysis. The results are presented in a clear, graphical report.
Advantages of PARALIGN®
  • No line of sight required for measurements.
  • Significant reduction in measurement time, capable of assessing up to 100 rolls per day.
  • Quick measurement preparation.
  • Automatic generation of user-independent measurement documentation.
  • High accuracy of 0.05 mm/m, unaffected by roll location or ambient temperature.
Case Study: Laminator Roll Alignment
A lamination machine, combining materials like carton board and aluminum foil, experienced frequent web breaks due to misalignment. During a brief maintenance period, PARALIGN® was used to assess the entire machine's alignment. The service identified significant misalignments, which were corrected, resulting in reduced web breaks, increased machine availability, and higher production output.
Cost and Quality Benefits
  • Reduced waste and increased machine availability.
  • Fewer web breaks and improved production efficiency.
  • Enhanced product quality with uniform lamination and fewer folds.
Conclusion
PARALIGN® offers a fast, accurate, and efficient solution for roll alignment in the packaging industry, leading to significant operational improvements and cost savings.

Roll Alignment for the Packaging Industry PARALIGN® – how does it work? From the gyros as a toy to the parallelism measurement system Moving gyros show a so called inertia and their relative position in space can hardly be changed (pct. 1). While the bearing surface is moved, the gyro axis stays constant and the angle of inclination can be displayed (pct. 2). The same effect is used in PARALIGN®: Inside the measurement system there are three highly precise ringlaser gyroscopes. The same technology can be found in the navigation systems of spacecrafts. Roll Alignment for the Packaging Industry PARALIGN® – measurement of a Laminator A lamination machine combines two media such as carton board and aluminium foil for example. The resulting material may be beverage packaging for milk cartons. The aluminium foil prevents the intrusion of oxygen. The very thin aluminium foil in combination with the rising production speed resulted in web breaks. Each web break causes a cost intensive production down time as well as material cost because of waste production. The manufacturer saw the reason for the mentioned problems in the roll alignment condition...
