PARALIGN in the corrugated cardboard machine - 1

PARALIGN in the corrugated cardboard machine The corrugated cardboard machine of a manufacturer of double-walled cardboard for the packaging industry has three sections: starting from the unwinder the cover liner with corrugated medium and the inner liner all pass through a preheater and are then glued together by a pressure roller. In this case, our customer was faced with the typical problems that are commonly encountered in these machines: the webs fluttered between the unwinders of the cardboard layers and the preheaters, and there were also problems with the quality of the finished product. The layers were not glued together correctly. The manufacturer suspected incorrect alignment as the reason for the problems described above and decided to use PARALIGN® for measurement because of the extremely fast measurement performance, the high accuracy and the immediate availability of the measurement report. The next page shows the PARALIGN® report for the complete machine, which was measured in full in only six hours. The three preheaters are highlighted in the enlarged section. The bottom preheater (blue roller) is used as a reference. The horizontal offsets of the two top preheaters are clearly visible – the middle preheater with approx. 1  mm offset, the top preheater with almost 4 mm offset. The situation with the left rollers before the preheaters is similar. The two top webs are also generally parallel to each other. However, both webs show significant offsets from the bottom web. Such offsets are quite common in machines after a few years of production. The misalignments of the individual webs result in the layers being offset when they are joined, resulting in a reduction of the quality of the finished product. The report was used to align the rollers with the largest offset on the same day under continuous monitoring with PARALIGN®. This process was able to reduce the misalignment and fluttering of the webs significantly, with a resulting increase in the quality of the finished product.
