HART Interface Used in In an effort to increase production and reduce costs, the Venezuelan national oil company PDVSA recently purchased a new interface module, which will allow them to communicate between Allen- Bradley ControlLogix using DF1 and the HART protocol. Approximately 40 new HART Multidrop (8 channel) Serial Port Interface Modules from ProLinx Communication Gateways, Inc. will be installed in their crude oil production units in eastern Venezuela. The ProLinx HART modules allow up to 8 channels of multidrop HART communications (theoretical support for up to 120 instruments such as Mass Flow Meters, Differential Pressure Transmitters, Absolute Pressure Transmitters and Temperature Transmitters). It also provides full access to the digital configuration, diagnostics and maintenance information in each connected transmitter. "Since the ProLinx 4127 HART module allows one DF1 port to connect to 8 HART channels, this interface provides maximum efficiency for HART networks," said Franco Melchiorre, Latin American Regional Sales Manager for ProLinx Communication Gateways, Inc.
