Ion selective electrodes Ion selective electrodes (ISE) allow the determination of the ion activity or ion concentration in a liquid, irrespective of its colour or its turbidity. The measurement itself works by immersing an ion-selective electrode and a reference electrode (preferred silver/silver chloride electrodes) into the solution of interest and measuring the cell voltage.
