Product catalog summary
Overview
The UFM Precision5 series by PROMESS is tailored for high-precision assembly and joining applications requiring small forces, particularly in industries like medical technology, watchmaking, and electronics.
Company Background
Founded in 1977 by Gerhard Lechler, PROMESS has grown from distributing measuring bearings to leading in electro-mechanical assembly presses, offering solutions from process development to production across over 30 countries.
Specifications and Features
The UFM Precision5 series offers models with varying force, stroke, and speed capabilities. Key features include an absolute encoder for precise positioning (except the 200 N unit), digital force measurement with 24-bit resolution, high repeatability, integrated movement and monitoring solutions, and easy sensor system extension via PROMESS-Bus.
Mechanical Design
The series features a non-rotating press ram with precision guidance, minimizing radial offset. The spindle is directly driven by an aligned servo-motor, enhancing speed and precision, with a robust design for long-term use.
System Design
The mechanical system is controlled by a power amplifier with an integrated NC module, coordinated by an internal RISC processor. It supports force-distance monitoring using envelopes and window methods, with data stored for quality assurance.
Software
The UFM V5.xx software is user-friendly, requiring no PLC expertise, and supports advanced joining processes, user administration, and integration with higher-level permission systems. It includes features for demanding applications like positioning on force slope and bending compensation.
Database and Analysis
All process data can be stored in databases like Oracle and MS SQL. The DB Viewer allows extensive querying and analysis, supporting 100% quality control and process documentation.
Accessories and Options
PROMESS offers accessories such as precision sensors and frames. The Safety Box PSB and Safety Module PSD provide additional safety and power management features, facilitating quick installation and reducing wiring needs.
Technical Data
Detailed technical specifications for components like force transducers and encoders emphasize accuracy and protection standards.
Overview of PROMESS Multifunction Amplifiers
PROMESS offers four multifunction amplifiers (PDM) that connect digitally to the UFM control via the PROMESS-Bus, including PDM-S, PDM-P, PDM-A, and PDM-IO, each with specific features for force transducers and digital inputs/outputs.
Technical Specifications
Includes precision class 0.25% analogue inputs, bandwidth 10 kHz, 24-bit A/D converter, aluminium die-cast housing, and protection class EN 60529 IP 40.
Industrial and Panel PCs
PROMESS provides industrial and panel PCs for programming and visualizing signals, with features like multilingual interfaces and fanless operation.
Field Busses and Plugins
PROMESS supports various field busses for communication between PLC and NC controllers, with custom plugins for application-specific optimizations.
Calibration and Maintenance
PROMESS offers maintenance contracts to prevent costly repairs, including annual checkups, re-greasing, oil changes, inspections, and software updates.
Customer Service and Training
PROMESS provides extensive customer service and training modules for installation, operation, and maintenance, including process development and emergency repairs.
Application Examples
PROMESS assembly presses are used in sectors like medical, electronics, and watchmaking for precision joining, riveting, stamping, and more.

Gerhard Lechler founded the company PROMESS in 1977 as an engineering office in the field of technical measurement in Berlin. Initially, the company distributed handmade patented measuring bearings for tool condition monitoring before the electro-mechanical assembly press (UFM) with integrated NC control was born at the end of the 1980s. Right from the beginning it was the strength and the passion of Gerhard Lechler to develop technical solutions for his customers. And this has not changed until today. This passion has continued so that the core competence of PROMESS is still the development...
