Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed technical specifications and guidelines for the installation and operation of Cam-Driven External Plate Locks used in mold applications. These locks facilitate parting line sequencing with minimal machining, suitable for various applications such as 3-Plate Sequencing, Dual Ejection, and Stripper Plate Sequencing.
Specifications:
  • The Plate Locks are designed to engage and release at specific points during the mold operation, allowing for controlled opening of parting lines.
  • US Patent No. 7,963,758 covers the external cam-driven system, with other patents pending.
  • Components include Latch Bar, Cam Bars, Wedge Block, Guide, and Guide Plate, all made from high-strength materials with specific hardness and treatments.
Design & Installation Guidelines:
  • Determine the lengths of Cam Bars using a gauge pin and calculate timing with the "T" dimension.
  • Machine the Latch Bar and Cam Bars to ensure clearance from the runner stripper plate.
  • Fasteners should be balanced on the Cam and Latch Bars, using screws and dowels in recommended locations.
  • For stripper plate applications, use the Stripper Plate Kit, replacing the Latch Bar with the Driver, Cap, and Spacer.
Applications:
  • 3-Plate Application: Utilizes three parting lines for ejecting parts and runners, with specific timing for opening each line.
  • Dual Ejection Application: Uses Plate Locks to keep ejector sets together until a preset release point.
  • Stripper Plate Application: The Drivers push the stripper plate forward to strip parts from the core, then release to allow ejector pins to push parts from the stripper plate.
Components and Materials:
  • Latch Bar: 4340, 35-40 HRC, Nitrided/Black Oxide
  • Cam Bar: 4340, 35-40 HRC, Nitrided/Black Oxide
  • Wedge Block: A-2, 58-60 HRC, Titanium Nitrided
  • Guide and Guide Plate: H-13, 52-54 HRC, Nitrided/Black Oxide
Catalog Information:
  • PLC75 and PLCM20 are the catalog numbers for the External Plate Lock Assembly in inch and metric standards, respectively.
  • PLC75-S and PLCM20-S are the catalog numbers for the Stripper Plate Kit in inch and metric standards, respectively.

general components plate locks external cam-driven system The Cam-Driven External Plate Locks allow for parting line sequencing via a versatile design with minimal machining for different applications, including: • 3-Plate Sequencing • Dual Ejection • Stripper Plate Sequencing Mold Closed: Lock Engaged In this 3-plate application, three parting lines are utilized for ejecting the part and runner. Stroke Continues The Plate Lock release point is reached and the 2nd parting line begins to open. First Parting Line Opens The Puller Pin pulls the runner and breaks the gate, while parting line #2 is held closed by the Plate Lock. Second Parting Line Opens With parting line #1 and #2 fully open, the mold continues to open with parting line #3 next, and the part is then ejected. US Patent No. 7,963,758 Others pending.
