UniLifter® Undercut Release System- Components: Includes Core Blade, U-Coupling, and T-Gib for releasing undercuts in molded parts.
- Specifications: The angle is set by the mold builder, with UniLifter travel calculated as ejector plate travel multiplied by the tangent of the angle.
- Application Guidelines: Recommended angles are 5-10˚ with guided ejection. Clearance should be .001"-.0015". Core insert material should differ by at least 10 HRC from standard Core Blades.
FlexiCore® Undercut Release System- Components: Comprises FlexiCore, Bronze Guide, Heel Plate, and Flat Head Cap Screw.
- Specifications: Uses improved materials for longer lifespan, with a maximum operating temperature of 250°F (125°C).
- Application Guidelines: FlexiCore diameter must be within the guide before ejection. Only low-temperature surface treatments are allowed.
Collapsible Cores & MiniCores®- Components: Includes Collapsible Core, Positive Collapse Sleeve, and Center Pin.
- Operation: Core collapses independently when the center pin is withdrawn.
- Application Guidelines: Standard cores have a maximum outer diameter of .720” to 4.225”.
Overview: This document outlines specifications and guidelines for Collapsible Cores and MiniCores in molding applications, covering design considerations, operational guidelines, and technical specifications.
Specifications:- MiniCores have a maximum outer diameter of 0.645” to 0.965” and offer up to 70% full thread or undercut geometry.
- Standard Collapsible Cores have a maximum outer diameter of 0.511” to 3.937” and offer complete 360° thread or undercut geometry.
- Custom cores are available for non-standard sizes with options for machined, EDM’d, or ground details.
Design Guidelines:- The first break should occur at the main parting line, with return pins under the stripper plate.
- Good venting is essential, preferably to the outside of the mold at the parting line.
- Undercuts should be drafted a minimum of 5°, and sharp interior corners should be avoided to prevent stress concentration.
Operational Guidelines:- Cores can operate without lubrication, but additional treatments for wear reduction or corrosion resistance are beneficial.
- The Positive Collapse Sleeve ensures safety and reliability when the Collapsible Core fails to collapse independently.
Technical Specifications:- Tables provide detailed measurements for various core models, including maximum outer diameter, minimum inner diameter, and collapse per side at the top of the core.
- Expandable Cavity Systems are available for molding undercuts such as threads and protrusions, eliminating the need for complex side action mechanisms.
Application Guidelines:- Collapsible Cores can be used in configurations other than the typical ejector/stripper plate design, such as with hydraulic cylinders and slide assemblies.
