Product catalog summary
Overview
PRIMIX pilot plant mixers are designed to enhance operations and profitability in pilot plants and research centers by offering a range of small static mixers suitable for process intensification and scalable to full production processes.
Background
In chemical process development, pilot plants are crucial for testing before scaling up to full production. These plants require reliable mixing results, achievable with small static mixers that perform comparably to larger counterparts.
Challenges
Pilot plants use tubing for liquid or gas transport, necessitating unique production methods for small diameter mixing elements, often made from 0.8mm sheet material. Precision grinding ensures a perfect fit even in unconventional sizes.
Design
PRIMIX utilizes Swagelok materials for mixer housings and connections, ensuring high-quality construction. Mixing elements are custom-machined for optimal fit and performance. Options for external heating or cooling jackets are available, and multiple mixing sections can be installed in series to form a tube reactor. Both standardized and custom models are offered, with PMS (helical) and PMX (X-type) elements.
Solution
PRIMIX provides a comprehensive range of static mixers for pilot plants with internal diameters from 3.5mm to 10mm, offering various connection options. The mixers are primarily made from 316L material, with C276 available in select sizes. They can also be supplied with an ATEX Ex II 2DG certificate for safety compliance.

Case study - Static mixers for pilot plants-2

Background Many chemical processes are being developed and tested in a pilot plant first before evolving to a full scale production process. Reliable and repeatable mixing results are required to enable scale up. For the pilot plant itself small static mixers are required in the diameter-range of a few millimetre but with the same performance as their grown up counter parts. The Challenge Pilot plants are typically constructed with tubing as carrier for the liquid or gas. Making mixing elements in these small diameters requires different production methods compared to larger diameter mixing elements...
