Product catalog summary
Introduction
PRIMIX static mixers provide a robust solution for diluting Sulphuric Acid while controlling the temperature rise from the exothermic reaction. This approach ensures a controlled process, requires low investment, and protects downstream piping.

Background
In chemical processes, concentrated Sulphuric acid is often diluted with water to achieve the desired concentration. This is common in the chemical industry and mineral extraction processes.

The Challenge
The exothermic nature of Sulphuric acid dilution can create local hot spots that damage piping materials, particularly at the injection point. While chemical-resistant materials like Hastelloy® C276 are available, they are costly. The challenge was to combine PTFE lined pipe components with PRIMIX's static mixer expertise to create an effective mixing solution.

Design
PRIMIX employs PTFE lined carbon steel (CS) or stainless steel (SS) pipes as mixer housing. The solid PTFE mixing elements ensure durability in harsh environments. These elements are secured by a PTFE retaining ring at the mixer's outlet. Sulphuric acid is injected through a PFA lined CS or SS Tee, with an optional injection valve made of solid PTFE and a Hastelloy® spring.

Solution
PRIMIX provides complete static mixer assemblies tailored for Sulphuric acid dilution. These mixers are designed for specific applications and typically result in a pressure drop below 0.5 bar. The design is proven, with hundreds of units installed globally.

Case study - Static mixers for H2SO4 dilution-2

Background In many chemical processes concentrated Sulphuric acid is diluted with water to the required concentration. Applications can be found in the chemical industry but also in the in-situ extraction process of minerals. The Challenge Diluting Sulphuric acid is an exothermic reaction. Local hot spots can damage the piping material, especially at the injection point. Chemical resistant materials as Hastelloy® C276 are expensive solutions. Could a combination of PTFE lined pipe components and PRIMIX' knowledge of static mixers be combined and offer an excellent mixing solution for this application?...
