Product catalog summary
Overview: The Posi-flate Series 585 and 586 inflatable seated butterfly valves are designed for heavy-duty applications, offering less friction, low torque, minimal wear, and extended valve life. These valves are suitable for dry solids, gases, and slurry applications, providing a bubble-tight seal with minimal disc impingement.
Specifications: The valves are available in sizes ranging from 2" (50 mm) to 24" (600 mm) and fit both ANSI and metric flanges. They are constructed from materials such as cast iron, stainless steel, and aluminum, with resilient seats made from EPDM, Buna-N, and other materials. The temperature limits range from -40° to 350° F (-40° to 175° C), and the working pressure can handle full vacuum to 150 psig (10.3 bar).
Design Features: Key features include an inflatable seat that compensates for wear, ultra-low torque requirements, and a design that prevents material buildup. The valves have double shaft seals, multiple bearings, and fail-safe monitoring. The actuator mounting flange allows for direct actuator mounting, and the retaining ring simplifies bearing and seal removal.
Performance Benefits: The unique design reduces friction and torque requirements, allowing for smaller actuators and lower costs. The valves have been proven to perform well in abrasive conditions, with a life expectancy of one to three million cycles. The inflatable seat ensures even pressure distribution and a reliable seal.
Applications: These valves are ideal for severe conditions and high-pressure operations. They are used in various industries for handling dry solids, gases, and slurries.
Additional Information: The valves are available with a full line of actuators, limit switches, and controls to suit individual applications. The Series 585 features a single-piece housing with a two-piece disc and shaft, while the Series 586 has a split housing with a one-piece disc and shaft.

Less friction, low torque, less wear, longer life. Posi-ate’s unique buttery valve design uses air pressure to expand the seat against the disc, providing even pressure distribution for a bubble-tight seal, every time. Because the seat makes only casual contact with the disc during valve opening and closing, there is minimal disc impingement. This is in contrast to conventional buttery valves where disc impingement leads to shaving of the seat, decreasing the overall performance and valve life. Substantially less torque is required to open and close the Posi-ate buttery valve, thus a smaller...

Design features for reliable performance A. ACTUATOR MOUNTING FLANGE: Flange is designed for direct actuator mounting. RETAINING RING: Retaining ring simplies bearing and seal removal and ensures positive bearing retention. BEARINGS: Multiple bearings substantially reduce operating friction and torque requirements, eliminating any metal-to-metal contact, thus preventing shaft galling and freezing. SHAFT: Corrosion resistant, high strength steel shaft is easily replaceable. SHAFT SEALS: O-ring shaft seals insure positive sealing under the most adverse conditions. SEAT O-RING SEAL: O-ring provides...
