Sphere Release Finger

Product catalog summary
Sphere Release Mechanisms Overview
Sphere release mechanisms are essential components in various industrial applications, primarily involving mechanical fingers, flaps, and valves. Each type serves specific operational needs based on the size and weight of the spheres involved.
Mechanical Fingers
Mechanical fingers are the most commonly used mechanism. However, they are not practical for spheres exceeding 20 inches in diameter. For larger spheres, which can weigh up to 500 kilograms, flaps are recommended due to their ability to handle higher loads.
Flaps
Flaps are designed to absorb the significant loads imposed by large spheres. They are more suitable for applications involving larger diameters and weights.
Operational Configuration
Typically, two fingers or flaps are installed on launchers to allow multiple spheres to be loaded into the barrel. This setup enables the sequential launching of single spheres at a predetermined rate. In declined receivers, a single finger is often used to prevent spheres from rolling towards the operator when the closure door is opened.
Additional Applications
Both fingers and flaps can be utilized in traps designed for conventional and intelligent pigs, expanding their applicability across different operational scenarios.

Mechanical fingers ? Flaps ? Valves Mechanical Fingers are the most popular but are not really practical for use with traps in which the spheres exceed 20”ns. Above this diameter it is more practical to use flaps which are designed to absorb the high loads that a large sphere, weighing up to 500 kilos, can impose. Fig 1. Sphere Release Fingers It is normal to fit two fingers or flaps to launchers so that multiple spheres can be loaded into the barrel after which single spheres can then be launched, at a pre-determined rate, by sequencing the operation of the fingers or flaps. For declined receivers, it is common to fit a single finger to prevent the sphere from rolling onto the operator as the closure door is opened. Fingers and flaps can also be used in traps intended for conventional and intelligent pigs.
