Product catalog summary
Anaerobic Gasket Overview
Anaerobic formed-in-place gaskets, such as Permatex® Anaerobic Gasket Maker, are designed to cure in the absence of air and in the presence of active metals. These gaskets are OEM specified and non-corrosive, suitable for aluminum, iron, and steel flanged mating surfaces. They are ideal when conventional gaskets are unavailable and can fill gaps up to 0.015 inches, curing to a solvent-resistant seal that remains intact during service. The parts can be easily disassembled even after extended use, and old gasket material can be removed quickly with the Permatex Safer Scraper.
Key Benefits
  • Controlled tolerances allow metal-to-metal contact.
  • Fills potential leak paths, recommended for finely machined surfaces.
  • One tube fits all shapes and sizes, reducing the need for costly gasket inventory.
  • Provides a 100% seal, eliminating flange face corrosion.
  • Single-part application is easy and clean.
Anaerobic Gasketing Technology
Compared to traditional methods, Permatex® solutions offer consistent performance with no need for re-torquing, low inventory requirements, and solvent-free application. Automation is possible, and excess material can be easily wiped away, ensuring accurate and precise application with minimal preparation.
Metal Surface Types
  • Active Metals: Steel, Copper, Brass, Bronze, Magnesium, Nickel, Iron. Resins fixture on these metals in the absence of air within 5 minutes, with full cure in 24 hours.
  • Inactive Metals: Bright Platings, Anodized Surfaces, Titanium, Zinc, Pure Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Cadmium. These require priming with Permatex® Surface Prep™.
Application Procedure
  1. Clean both flange surfaces, removing paint, dirt, grease, or old gasket completely.
  2. Spray Permatex® Brake and Parts Cleaner on both flanges and allow to dry for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Apply a continuous bead of sealant, circling bolt holes.
  4. Assemble mating surfaces with minimal lateral movement. Wipe away excess sealant with a cloth and Permatex® Brake and Parts Cleaner.
Note: Not recommended for use in oxygen-rich systems or as a sealant for chlorine and other strong oxidizing materials.
