Product catalog summary
Introduction
Permabond TA4204 is a two-part, toughened acrylic adhesive designed for bonding a wide variety of materials including metals, plastics, ceramics, and wood. It is available in an easy-to-dispense cartridge and can be used with or without a mixing nozzle.

Features & Benefits
  • Adhesion to various substrates
  • Fast curing at room temperature
  • High shear and peel strength
  • Good impact and chemical resistance
  • Crystal clear appearance
  • Effective bonding to unprepared aluminium

Specifications
The adhesive consists of methyl methacrylate and is clear and colorless. It has a viscosity of 100,000 mPa.s for TA4204 A and 10,000 mPa.s for TA4204 B. The specific gravity is 1.0 for both components.

Curing Properties
  • Mixing ratio: 1:1
  • Maximum gap fill: 3 mm
  • Fixture time at 23°C: 1-2 minutes
  • Handling time at 23°C: 5-10 minutes
  • Full cure at 23°C: 24 hours

Performance
The adhesive demonstrates varying shear strengths depending on the substrate, with values ranging from 2-23 N/mm². It also has a peel strength of 50 N/25mm and a hardness of 50-60 Shore D.

Thermal and Electrical Properties
  • Coefficient of thermal expansion: 80 x 10-6 1/K
  • Thermal conductivity: 0.1 W/(m.K)
  • Dielectric constant: 4.6 MHz
  • Dielectric strength: 30-50 kV/mm
  • Volume resistivity: 2 x 1013 Ohm.cm

Usage Recommendations
Surfaces should be clean, dry, and grease-free. Light abrasion may be beneficial for metals like aluminium. The adhesive should be applied as a thin bead, and components should be clamped until handling strength is achieved. Full curing takes 24 hours, but can be accelerated with heat.

Storage & Handling
Store the adhesive at temperatures between 2 to 7°C. Handle all materials according to good industrial hygiene practices.

Limitations
The product is not recommended for use with strong oxidizing materials and may affect some thermoplastics. Compatibility should be checked before use.

Additional Information

Surface Preparation Surfaces should be clean, dry and grease-free before applying the adhesive. Permabond Cleaner A is recommended for the degreasing of most surfaces. Some metals such as aluminium, copper and its alloys will benefit from light abrasion with emery cloth (or similar), to remove the oxide layer. % Strength Retained Hot strength” shear strength tests performed on mild steel. Fully cured specimens conditioned to pull temperature for 30 minutes before testing at temperature. TA4204 can withstand higher temperatures for brief periods (such as for paint baking and wave soldering processes)...
