Product catalog summary
Introduction
This document provides technical details and guidelines for the use of PERMABOND® ES550, a single-part epoxy adhesive. It emphasizes the importance of conducting tests to ensure product suitability for specific applications, as no warranties are provided.

Features & Benefits
PERMABOND® ES550 offers excellent adhesive strength, resistance to vibration, high shear and peel strength, impact strength, and temperature resistance. It is easy to use, requiring no mixing, and is suitable for bonding metals, ferrites, ceramics, and composites.

Physical Properties
Uncured Adhesive: The epoxy resin is silver-grey with a viscosity of 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 mPa.s and a specific gravity of 1.5. It does not flow at high temperatures and can fill gaps up to 5 mm.
Cured Adhesive: The shear strength varies by material, with steel ranging from 27-41 N/mm². It has an impact strength of 25-35 KJ/m², a hardness of 80-85 Shore D, and a glass transition temperature of 120°C.

Application Guidelines
Surfaces must be clean and grease-free. The adhesive should be applied from the cartridge, ensuring no air is trapped. Parts should be clamped during curing, which requires heat as per the specified schedule.

Storage & Handling
Store between 2 to 7°C. Handle all materials with good industrial hygiene practices.

Additional Information
The product is not recommended for use with strong oxidizing materials. Safety data sheets provide further handling information.

Engineering Adhesives Single-part, heat-cure Epoxy Technical Datasheet Features & Benefits Excellent adhesive strength Excellent resistance to vibration Easy to use - no mixing required High shear and peel strength Good impact strength High temperature resistance Good resistance to chemicals Description PERMABOND® ES550 is a single-part epoxy paste which is slump-resistant (does not flow) during cure. The adhesive is toughened for maximum impact resistance, along with excellent peel and shear strength. ES550 is ideal for bonding a wide range of materials including metals, ferrites, ceramics and composites. Physical Properties of Uncured Adhesive (Measured) Physical Properties of Cured Adhesive (Measured) Shear strength* (ISO4587) Chemical composition *Actual cure times will depend on the time it takes for the adhesive to reach this temperature - for example, large assemblies or a crowded oven will require longer to reach full cure. Alternative, quicker methods of curing include induction, hotplates, infrared lamps and hot-air guns. *Strength results will vary depending on the level of surface preparation and gap. "Hot strength" shear strength tests performed on mild steel. Fully cured then conditioned to pull temperature for 30 minutes before testing. ES550 can withstand higher temperatures for brief periods (such as for paint baking and wave soldering processes) providing the joint is not unduly stressed. The minimum temperature the cured adhesive can be exposed to is -40°C (-40°F) depending on the materials being bonded. PERMABOND® ES550-2

Surface Preparation Surfaces should be clean, dry and grease-free before applying the adhesive. Use a suitable solvent (such as acetone or isopropanol) for the degreasing of surfaces. Some metals such as aluminium, copper and its alloys will benefit from light abrasion with emery cloth (or similar), to remove the oxide layer. % Strength Retention Directions for Use 1) The adhesive should be dispensed from the cartridge via the nozzle supplied (this can be cut to give the appropriate sized bead to cover the bond area). 2) Apply the adhesive to one surface and avoid entrapping air. 3) Assemble...
