Introduction
The Ultra-Series by PermAlert is a non-corrosive steel piping system designed for environmental applications. It combines steel and fiberglass technologies to offer strength and corrosion resistance, addressing the needs of consulting engineers for durable and non-corrosive piping solutions.

Specifications
The Ultra-Series features a carbon steel containment pipe with a fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) external cladding, at least 0.100 inches thick. The cladding is applied to a shot-blasted steel surface and consists of helical windings of continuous glass reinforcements. The system is designed to meet environmental regulations for hazardous liquids without the need for cathodic protection.

Durability
The system offers the durability of steel and the non-corrosive properties of fiberglass. The filament winding technique ensures perfect adhesion of fiberglass to the steel pipe, eliminating external corrosion and reinforcing the fiberglass for enhanced durability.

Pipe Specifications
Diameters and minimum thicknesses are specified as follows:

• 3"-5": Schedule 40
• 6"-26": 10 gauge
• 28"-36": 6 gauge
• 38"-42": 4 gauge

All containment pipes undergo a holiday test using a 35,000-volt electrical resistance holiday detector.

Pipe Supports
Supports are steel and factory-installed at intervals of 10 feet. They include flared end stainless steel guide tubes for cable pulling and protection.

Leak Detection/Location System
The system includes a PAL-AT cable type leak detection/location system, capable of continuous monitoring and mapping of sensor cables. The system detects water-based, chemical, and hydrocarbon liquids.

Installation
The system must be installed according to manufacturer guidelines, with air testing at 10 psig and hydrostatic testing at 50 psig or 1.5 times the operating pressure. The trench is backfilled with sand or fine gravel and suitable soil.

General Requirements
All secondary containment piping is prefabricated and engineered to minimize field connections. The system is drainable, dryable, and air pressure testable. Factory representatives provide technical support during installation.
