POLYTHERM® GOLD

POLYTHERM® GOLD

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The POLY-THERM® GOLD is a fiberglass jacketed polyurethane insulated piping system designed for district heating and cooling. It incorporates advanced corrosion protection technology from the oil and gas industry, ensuring enhanced durability and performance.

Corrosion Protection
The system features a shot-blasted steel service pipe with a near-white surface for optimal coating adhesion. Three coating options are available: Epoxy, Urethane Elastomer, and Zinc, each offering specific benefits for different environmental conditions.

Insulation
The polyurethane spray foam insulation is thermally efficient, suitable for temperatures up to 250°F, and ensures void-free application for maximum thermal efficiency. The insulation process allows for visual inspection before the application of the fiberglass reinforced polymer (FRP) jacket.

Fiberglass Jacket
The multidirectional filament winding process creates a high-strength FRP jacket, providing environmental protection for the insulation. The jacket is suitable for both belowground and aboveground installations, with UV inhibitors available for outdoor applications.

Engineering and Design
The system is fully engineered by PERMA-PIPE, with considerations for thermal stress, heat loss/gain, and soil loading. Custom-made, factory-fabricated fittings reduce field connections, minimizing installation time and costs.

Applications
The POLY-THERM® GOLD system is versatile, suitable for various applications including domestic hot water systems, geothermal collection, waste heat recovery, cryogenic piping, solar collection, district heating and cooling, process fluid transport, and more.

Field Joint Closure
The field joint closure process involves completing the service pipe joint, pouring foam insulation, wrapping a shrink sleeve around the joint area, and shrinking the sleeve using a propane torch.

Specifications
The system is designed for fluid temperatures up to 250°F, with all components factory-fabricated to minimize field welds. The design conforms to ANSI B31.1 standards, ensuring reliability and safety.

Service Pipe Coating
The steel pipe surface is abrasive blast-cleaned and coated with one of the three options. Each coating type undergoes holiday testing to ensure a void-free application.

Insulation and Protective Jacket
The insulation is a minimum 2lb/ft³ density polyurethane foam, with specific thickness requirements based on pipe size. The FRP jacket is filament wound directly onto the insulation, with thickness varying by diameter.

Accessories and Field Joints
End seals, gland seals, and anchors are factory fabricated to prevent moisture ingress. Field joints are hydrostatically tested, insulated, and sealed with a heat shrinkable wrap.

COSTLY REPAIRS and REPLACEMENTS PREMATURE FAILURE Now for the rst time in District Heating and Cooling, PERMAPIPE introduces the same corrosion protection technology used in the Oil and Gas industry. An additional corrosion coating layer is applied to the outer service pipe prior to the application of the polyurethane foam and berglass reinforced polymer (FRP) jacket. This coating will protect the steel in the event the outer jacket is ever breached during operation. SHOT BLASTED STEEL SERVICE PIPE For the best corrosion protection the steel substrate must be blasted to a near white surface....
