Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides comprehensive specifications and operational guidelines for the PAL-AT and FluidWatch leak detection systems by PermAlert, a division of Perma-Pipe, Inc. These systems are designed to detect and locate leaks in environments such as data centers, tank farms, and clean rooms.
PAL-AT System:
  • Operation: Functions like radar, using energy pulses to monitor sensor cables for leaks by detecting impedance changes due to liquid contact. It triggers alarms and updates reference maps for continuous monitoring.
  • Accuracy: Locates leaks within ±0.3% of the sensor string length or ±6 feet for water-based liquids, and ±0.6% or ±6 feet for hydrocarbons.
  • Components: Includes probes for specific liquid detection and can integrate with the LiquidWatch system.
  • Specifications: Features microprocessor-based monitoring units, continuous monitoring, multi-level security, housed in a NEMA 12 enclosure, UL listed, and CE compliant.
FluidWatch System:
  • Components: Comprises an electronic monitoring unit, coaxial water-sensing cable, connectors, and tags, designed for small areas like equipment rooms and tanks.
  • Operation: Uses a coaxial cable to detect water presence, with an LED display for system status, audible alarms, and relays for leak or fault detection.
  • Installation: Requires installation per manufacturer instructions and local codes, with power options of 120 VAC, 240 VAC, or 24 VDC.
General Specifications:
  • Experience: Manufacturer must have 10-15 years of experience in leak detection systems.
  • Safety and Compliance: Systems must be UL listed, CE compliant, and meet FCC Class A digital device standards, complying with EPA's standard test procedures for leak detection.
  • Communication: Equipped with RS-232, RS-485, and Ethernet ports for remote monitoring and diagnostics.
Probes and Accessories:
  • Types: Various probes for detecting different liquids, including hydrocarbons and water-based liquids. Specialty probes can be integrated for specific applications.
  • Integration: Systems can monitor additional sensors like float switches and temperature sensors through adapters.
Product Overview: The FluidWatch II System is a low voltage system for detecting liquid leaks, specifically organic liquids and water, while ignoring vapors and gases. It features remote monitoring capabilities and is suitable for CRAC/CRAH units and other applications not requiring an alarm horn. Housed in a NEMA 4X enclosure, it supports up to 64 probes and 16 programmable alarm relays.
PAL-AT System Features:
  • Wet Cable Start Up: Allows continuous monitoring even with wet cables.
  • Versatility: Monitors up to four sensing zones with up to 7,500 ft of sensor cable per zone.
  • Low Power Installation: Suitable for solar and battery applications.
  • System Archives: Stores significant operating events for compliance and troubleshooting.
  • Security System: Multi-level password protection for advanced functions.
  • Compliance: UL Listed, CE compliance, and EPA Third Party Tested for hazardous locations.
Sensor Cable Technology: The PAL-AT system uses sensor cables and probes for various applications, capable of detecting both water-based and hydrocarbon liquids. Cables are resistant to false alarms from non-liquid conductive materials and can be reused after drying.
PALCOM® Network Software: Allows centralized monitoring of up to 254 PAL-AT units, providing continuous status monitoring, event archiving, remote keypad access, and a Graphic Locator System (GLS) for displaying leak locations on CAD drawings.
Applications: PermAlert leak detection systems are used in pharmaceutical manufacturing, chemical storage, environmental chambers, data centers, and more, protecting sensitive areas like underground storage tanks and hospital operating rooms.
Specifications: Systems must comply with Class A digital device limits per FCC rules, evaluated by an independent third party using the U.S. EPA's standard test procedure for leak detection methods. They should not rely on battery-backed functions for leak detection and must store conditions in non-volatile memory to resume monitoring after power failure. Power requirements are 110/240 VAC, 50 VA, 50/60 Hz, single phase, with RS-232, RS-485, and Ethernet communication ports, and at least three SPDT output relays rated for 250 VAC, 10 amps.
Procedures: Sensor cable and connectors must be supplied by the monitoring unit manufacturer, allowing continuous monitoring without affecting sensitivity or accuracy. Software should enable remote or on-site interface for troubleshooting and diagnostics, operate PAL-AT monitoring units, and provide a digital map indicating alarm locations.
Norms and Recommendations: Information is subject to change, emphasizing reliability while disclaiming liability for indirect damages. Mentions trademarks such as Halar, Windows, PAL-AT, PALCOM, LiquidWatch, and FluidWatch.
Probes: PWS Probes detect water-based liquids. PSTV and PTHL Probes are float switches for double-wall tanks, monitoring interstitial spaces or product levels. PFS Probe monitors liquids in manholes and sumps, detecting water-based or hydrocarbon liquids. Specialty probes like PA10 and PT10 offer flexibility for specific applications.

Why PAL-AT® ? Control the damage and you control costs. In most monitoring situations, just knowing that you have a liquid leak is not good enough. You need to know: Where is it? When did it occur? Where did it start? Is there more than one leak? You need accurate information and you need it now! The sooner you pinpoint the where and what, the sooner you can begin to control and minimize damage to your facility, personnel, the environment and to your balance sheet. With PAL-AT® you can have this type of information instantly. PAL-AT is a sophisticated micro-processor system with multi-sensing...
