Product catalog summary
Introduction to ePFE®
Pawling Engineered Products has developed ePFE®, a unique elastomeric technology that combines the benefits of perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) with the dynamic properties of traditional materials. These custom-manufactured seals feature a chemical and temperature-resistant FFKM contact surface co-molded with a resilient silicone layer. This technology is suitable for O-rings and other custom cross-sections, especially for larger profiles and diameters.
Typical Applications
  • Semiconductor Processing
  • Chemical/Pharmaceutical Processing
  • Plasma Processing
  • Thermal Processing
  • Wet Processes
Applications include chamber lid seals, coupling seals, door seals, window seals, flange seals, gate valve seals, plenum seals, chemical containment seals, and filter seals.
Advantages of Using ePFE
  • ePFE can replace underperforming seals made of HNBR, fluorosilicone, or FKM, reducing maintenance shutdowns.
  • It is a cost-effective alternative to fully molded perfluoroelastomer seals like Kalrez® or Chemraz®.
  • ePFE parts can be designed for partial encapsulation, focusing perfluoroelastomer use at contact areas only.
  • The resilient inner core allows softer compression, beneficial for larger sizes compared to PTFE encapsulated O-rings.
Technical Data and Material Comparison
The document includes a materials comparison chart highlighting the performance of ePFE against other materials like FKM, FFKM, TPE-P, NBR, and FVMQ in various chemical environments and temperature conditions. Key points include:
  • ePFE shows excellent resistance to hydrocarbons, organic and inorganic acids, alkalis, ketones, and steam.
  • Maximum temperature resistance is 200°C, with cost considerations marked as $$$$.

PERFLUOROELASTOMER SEALS Introducing ePFE® Pawling Engineered Products has developed a unique, elastomeric technology which combines the benefits of perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) with the dynamic properties of more traditional materials. Our custom manufactured seals consist of a chemical and temperature resistant FFKM contact surface co-molded with a more resilient layer made of silicone. O-rings along with other custom cross sections can be made using this technology - with larger profiles and/or diameters preferred. Why Use ePFE? • ePFE can be used in lieu of underperforming seals made of HNBR, fluorosilicone, or FKM thereby reducing costly maintenance shutdowns to replace defective seals. • ePFE may be considered in applications where use of fully molded perfluoroelastomer seals (an example being Kalrez® or Chemraz®) are cost prohibitive. Since the FFKM layer comprises a much smaller percentage of the overall seal, larger profiles and/or diameters now make economic sense. • Depending on the application, ePFE parts can be designed for partial encapsulation which focuses the use of perfluoroelastomer at the contact areas only. • Use of a more resilient inner core will allow ePFE seals to more softly compress which is very important on larger sizes. This is especially the case when compared to PTFE encapsulated O-rings. Typical Applications Semiconductor Processing Plasma Processing Chamber Lid Seals Door Seals Window Seals Gate Valve Seals Thermal Processing Plenum Seals Wet Processes Door Seals Chemical Containment Seals Filter Seals Chemical/Pharmaceutical Processing Coupling Seals Door Seals Flange Seals
