Many ground support vehicles were out of service for up to two days because of injector failures due to the excess water in the fuel tanks. The situation not only caused delays, it also caused United Airlines to incur the cost to repair their vehicles' injectors. Why was Racor chosen as the solution: Accompanied by the local Racor distributor, a team of Racor sales and technical personnel visited with United Airlines fuel and maintenance personnel to offer help with the situation. As a result, United Airlines purchased and installed a Racor FBO-14-DPL on their fuel dispensing pump. Immediate results showed "clean and dry" diesel fuel being delivered to the ground support vehicles. United Airlines continues to receive clean and dry fuel into their vehicles. The problem was solved with the Racor high capacity FBO-14-DPL. United Airlines in now looking into purchasing more FBO vessels to support their fueling needs. Product Information: Filter servicing is easy as no tools are required to replace the element. The water-in-fuel sight glass offers a visual check for water in the filter bowl. A Parker ball valve is used for draining. An element restriction indicator offers a quick check of filter status. Parker Racor offers a full line of microfilters and fuel/filter water separators that are designed for a single pass through the high efficiency elements that remove solids and water from the fluid stream, providing clean and dry fuel down stream. Racor now offers API/EI 1581 5th Edition elements for FBO filtration applications to provide clean and dry fuel in jet fueling applications. For FBO-10 and 14, respectively use FBO 60360 and FBO 60361 elements. Other Information: Racor also offers the FBO-10-DPL and FBO-14-DPL for marine applications. The FBO-10-MA and the FBO-14-MA are marine rated and UL tested and listed. What was the problem before Racor: United Airlines dispenses their own diesel fuel to power their ground support vehicles. They were utilizing a spin-on type fuel filter on the dispensing pump, with low solids capacity and water removal efficiency. United Airlines encountered a problem due to high water content in the fuel dispensed into their vehicles. The dispenser's spin-on filter could not remove the water efficiently from the diesel fuel causing water to end up in the fuel tanks of the ground support vehicles.
