2A Pneumatic Cylinders

Product catalog summary
Introduction
The document is a technical catalogue for Parker Hannifin's 2A Series pneumatic cylinders, designed for heavy-duty applications in harsh environments like steel mills and foundries. These cylinders are robust, made from all-steel construction, and are based on the Parker series 3L hydraulic range. They are suitable for working pressures up to 18 bar and are available in various mounting styles to suit different applications.
Design Features and Benefits
The 2A cylinders feature precision-ground piston rods made from high tensile carbon alloy steel, hard chrome plated for durability. The rod gland and seals are designed for easy maintenance, and the cylinder body is chrome-plated to prevent corrosion. Pistons are equipped with lipseals for efficient sealing, and cushioning is provided for end-of-stroke deceleration.
Standard Specifications
The cylinders conform to NFPA specifications, available in bore sizes from 25.4mm to 355.6mm, and can operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +80°C. The standard medium is filtered and lubricated air.
Mounting Styles
The document outlines 15 standard mounting styles, including extended tie rod, flange, foot, pivot, and trunnion mountings, each suited for specific applications and offering benefits like ease of mounting and high efficiency.
Seal Groups
Parker offers two classes of seals: Group 1 for standard air or nitrogen applications, and Group 5 for high-temperature applications. Special designs and custom features are available upon request.
Selection Checklist
A checklist is provided to guide the selection of the appropriate cylinder, considering factors like system parameters, mounting style, bore size, piston rod specifications, cushioning, ports, seals, and optional features.
Additional Information
The document includes detailed dimensions, piston rod end data, and information on accessories, non-lubricated air cylinders, pressure limitations, and more. It also highlights the inPHorm program, which assists in selecting the correct part for an application and generating CAD drawings.
Specifications and Recommendations
The document provides detailed specifications for spring-returned cylinders, recommending tie rod extensions for safe disassembly. It specifies bore sizes ranging from 38.1mm to 203.2mm and corresponding bar psi ratings. It also discusses the use of stroke limiters for precision and multiple stroke positioning techniques.
Components and Accessories
The document lists various components such as rod end bellows, metallic rod wipers, and DC proximity sensors. It provides detailed part numbers and descriptions for replacement parts and service kits, including gland and piston service kits.
Installation and Storage Guidelines
Recommendations for storing cylinders include keeping them in a dry, clean environment and in a vertical position to prevent corrosion. Installation guidelines emphasize cleanliness and correct alignment to prevent wear.
Warranty and Repairs
The warranty covers defects in material and workmanship, with limitations on liability. The document outlines the process for repairs and the use of non-lubricated service kits.
Ordering Information
Detailed instructions are provided for ordering accessories and specifying cylinder configurations, including mounting styles, port positions, and special features.
Mass and Storage Information
The document includes tables for calculating the mass of cylinders based on bore size and stroke length, as well as storage procedures to prevent damage.

Design Features and Benefits Gland seal life is maximised by manufacturing piston rods from precision ground, high tensile carbon alloy steel, hard chrome plated and polished to 0.2mm max. Piston rods are induction case hardened to Rockwell C54 minimum before chrome plating, resulting in a dent-resistant surface. For non-lubricated air cylinders, rod seals with special rounded sealing lips are supplied as standard. Specify series 2AN (see pages 34-35). The surface of the cylinder bore is finished to minimise internal friction and prolong seal life. The bore of the cylinder is hard chrome-plated...

Design Features and Benefits Piston Seals Needle valves are provided at both ends of the cylinder for precise cushion adjustment, and retained within the head and cap so that they cannot be inadvertently removed. The cartridge type needle valve illustrated below is fitted to cylinders of up to 63.5mm (21/2”) bore – see page 42. Lipseal Pistons – A Lipseal piston is fitted to 2A cylinders as standard. It offers a wide piston surface which reduces bearing load, and is suitable for speeds of up to 0.5m/s. Fully dynamic and self-compensating seals allow for variations in pressure, mechanical deflections...
