Product catalog summary
Overview
This document provides a detailed description of Ortlinghaus plates used in clutches and brakes, highlighting their development, types, and applications. It emphasizes the importance of plates as functional elements in these systems and outlines the company's contributions to technological advancements in friction clutches.

Specifications
The plates are designed for both dry- and wet-running clutches and brakes, featuring driving teeth or lugs on their diameters. They are available in various dimensions, friction combinations, and surface patterns. Ortlinghaus offers a comprehensive range of standard plates, with the capability to manufacture custom solutions.

Types of Plates
  • Dry-running Plates: Typically use an organic friction lining paired with a steel or cast iron counterplate. Sintered metallic linings are also available for specific applications.
  • Wet-running Plates: Utilize lubricating and cooling oil, with steel/sintered coating combinations replacing traditional steel/steel. Steel/paper linings are increasingly used in transmission systems due to their excellent frictional behavior and minimal wear.

Friction Surfaces
The friction surfaces significantly impact the operating behavior of the plates. Various surface patterns, such as spiral grooves and honeycomb patterns, are used to optimize performance, particularly in wet-running applications.

Design Considerations
Plates must be mounted with drive components like hubs or housings to allow axial displacement while preventing rotation. Different drive locations, such as lugs, slots, and splines, are available to meet specific requirements.

Custom Solutions
Ortlinghaus is equipped to design and manufacture plates tailored to customer specifications, utilizing modern manufacturing techniques to meet diverse needs.

Technical Questionnaire
The document includes a fax questionnaire for designing plates, requesting detailed information on drive type, operation, friction combination, and other technical parameters to assist in the selection and design process.

Plates-2

This product group includes all plate typefriction components for clutches and brakes which possess driving teeth or lugs on their outer or inner diameters. Both plate and counterplate must be considered together, in general one plate with friction material works together with a counterplate of steel or cast iron. The plates are the important functional element in every clutch and brake, and have been developed in many different ways since the early days of clutches and brakes. Ortlinghaus has played an important role in the total development of friction clutches, one example of its contributions...

Plates-3

In every multi-plate clutch and brake there areinner plates, which are driven on the inner diameter together with a hub, and outer plates, which are driven on the outer diameter together with a housing. Both the inner or outer plates can be the driver or driven sides, and both can carry the friction lining, this depends on the type of clutch or brake and the conditions in which they are to be used. When considering "wet-running" plates, it is necessary to consider the lubricating and cooling oil, since this plays a decisive roll in the frictional process. In wet-running clutches and brakes the...
