K8DS-PZ

Product catalog summary
Overview
The K8DS-PZ is a versatile relay designed for monitoring three-phase power supplies in industrial settings. It detects undervoltages, overvoltages, voltage asymmetry, phase sequence, and phase loss, and is resistant to inverter noise. It features a single SPDT output relay with a capacity of 5 A at 250 VAC.

Specifications
  • Rated Input Voltage: K8DS-PZ1 supports 200-240 VAC; K8DS-PZ2 supports 380-480 VAC.
  • Input Load: 1.7 VA for K8DS-PZ1, 2.8 VA for K8DS-PZ2.
  • Operating Value Setting Range: Overvoltage/Undervoltage: 2%-30%; Asymmetry: 5%-22%.
  • Reset Method: Automatic with a fixed reset value of 5%.
  • Operating Time Setting Range: 0.1 to 30 seconds for voltage issues; 0.1 seconds for phase issues.
  • Indicators: Power (Green), Relay output (Yellow), Alarm outputs (Red).
  • Output Relays: One SPDT relay output, 5 A at 250 VAC or 30 VDC.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operating temperature: -20 to 60°C; Storage temperature: -25 to 65°C; Humidity: 25%-85%.
  • Dimensions: 17.5 × 80 × 74 mm.

Installation and Operation
The relay is mounted on a DIN track and requires correct wiring to L1, L2, and L3 terminals. Incorrect phase sequence will prevent normal operation. Output terminals are 11, 12, and 14. Setting knobs adjust input voltage range, overvoltage/undervoltage, asymmetry rate, and operating time.

Testing and Maintenance
Testing involves adjusting input voltage and observing alarm indicators. Overvoltage, undervoltage, and asymmetry responses are tested by changing input values and measuring response time. Phase sequence and phase loss are verified by altering wiring or simulating phase loss.

Safety and Standards
The K8DS-PZ complies with EN 60947-5-1 and UL 508 standards, with a dielectric strength of 2,000 VAC and noise immunity of 1,500 V. It is suitable for environments with pollution level 2 and installation category III.

Safety Precautions
Emphasizes preventing electrical shock, fire, or device failure by ensuring power is off before wiring, avoiding terminal contact during power supply, and preventing conductive material entry during installation. Warns against use in explosive environments.

Precautions for Safe Use
Advises against using the product in environments with water, oil, dust, corrosive gases, or extreme temperatures. Highlights the importance of correct installation, wiring, and adherence to voltage and load ratings.

Precautions for Correct Use
Guidelines include using appropriate power supplies, avoiding waveform distortion, and ensuring phase loss detection. Advises against using with thyristor control or on the secondary side of an inverter without a noise filter.

Mounting and Removing
Instructions for secure mounting on a DIN track, ensuring space for installation/removal, and using a screwdriver for setting adjustments.

Terms and Conditions Agreement
Omron offers a limited twelve-month warranty against defects, disclaiming other warranties. Limits liability for damages and emphasizes buyer's responsibility for product suitability.

Specifications Input frequency •Relationship of Mounting Distance between K8DS-PZ Relays and Ambient Temperature (Reference Values) The following diagram shows the relationship between the mounting distances and the ambient temperature. If the relay is used with an ambient temperature that exceeds these values, the temperature of the K8DS may rise and shorten the life of the internal components. It will not light unless there is an input across L2 and L3. •Setting Knobs Item Note: 1. Use either a solid wire of 2.5 mm2 maximum or a ferrule with insulating sleeve for the terminal connection. The length of the exposed current-carrying part inserted into the terminal must be 8 mm or less to maintain dielectric strength after connection. For 2.5 mm2 or For ferrules with smaller solid wires an insulation sleeve. Recommended ferrules Phoenix Contact • Al 1,5-8BK (for AWG16) •...

K8DS-PZ Setting Methods ●Asymmetry The asymmetry rate is set using the asymmetry rate knob (ASY). The setting range is 5% to 22% of the rated input. To correctly detect asymmetry, set the asymmetry rate knob to a value that is equal to or less than the overvoltage/undervoltage set value. If you set it to a value that is greater than the overvoltage/undervoltage set value, overvoltage/undervoltage detection will operate first, and asymmetry alarms will not be output. If the knob is turned with an input applied to the input terminals, the alarm indicator will flash when the set value equals the...

Checking Operation How to Measure the Operating Time Overvoltage Change the input value quickly from 70% to 120% of the set value and measure the time required for the Relay to operate. Undervoltage Change the input value quickly from 120% to 70% of the set value and measure the time required for the Relay to operate. Operating Time Adjust the slide resistor so that the voltage applied to the K8DS terminals is 120% of the set value for overvoltage detection, 80% of the set value for undervoltage detection, or equal to or greater than the asymmetry operating value when the auxiliary relay in connection...

Load-side Phase Loss In principle, phase loss cannot be detected on the load side because the K8DS-PZ measures three-phase voltage to determine phase loss. Motor Load Phase Loss during Operation Motor load phase loss cannot be detected during operation. It can be used to detect phase loss at startup. Normally, three-phase motors will continue to rotate even if one phase is open. The three-phase voltage will be induced at the motor terminals. The diagram shows voltage induction at the motor terminals when phase R has been lost with a load applied to a three-phase motor. The horizontal axis shows...
