K8AK-VS

Product catalog summary
Overview: The K8AK-VS is a single-phase voltage relay designed for monitoring overvoltages and undervoltages in industrial settings. It features both manual and automatic resetting, with a single SPDT output relay capable of handling 5 A at 250 VAC.
Specifications: The relay operates within an input frequency range of 40 to 500 Hz and is isolated from the power supply. It offers various input ranges based on the model, with input impedance varying accordingly. Power supply options include 24 VAC/DC and 100 to 240 VAC, with a maximum power consumption of 4.6 VA.
Features: LED indicators display power, relay output, and alarm status. The operating value can be set from 10% to 100% of the maximum range, and the reset value from 5% to 50% of the operating value. Operating time is adjustable between 0.1 to 30 seconds.
Connections and Settings: Connections are made via a terminal block, supporting both solid and twisted wires. DIP switches configure the power ON lock time, resetting method, relay drive method, and operating mode. The relay is DIN track mountable.
Safety and Standards: The relay complies with EN 60947-5-1 standards and is UL 508 recognized. It has an insulation resistance of 20 MΩ and a dielectric strength of 2,000 VAC, suitable for environments with pollution level 2 and installation category III.
Precautions: Avoid using the relay in environments with water, oil, corrosive gases, or extreme temperatures. Ensure proper torque on terminal screws to prevent fire hazards, and do not disassemble or modify the product.
Installation and Wiring Instructions:
  • Ensure adequate ventilation and forced cooling if necessary.
  • Mount the product correctly and check terminal polarity during wiring.
  • Ensure power supply voltage and loads are within specified ratings.
  • Use specified crimp terminals and avoid connecting unused terminals.
  • Keep wiring separate from high voltage and high current lines.
  • Avoid installation near equipment generating high frequencies or surges.
  • Install an external switch or circuit breaker for quick power-off capability.
  • Perform periodic maintenance and ensure indicators function correctly.
Operating Methods:
  • Use power supplies with suitable capacities and rated outputs.
  • Avoid using the product in circuits with waveform distortion.
  • Adjust setting knobs with a precision screwdriver, turning from minimum to maximum to reduce error.
  • Clean the product with commercial alcohol, avoiding thinners or solvents.
Mounting and Removing:
  • Mount the product to a DIN Track with the tab at the top and hooks at the bottom.
  • To remove, use a flat-blade screwdriver to release the bottom hook.
Warranty and Liability:
  • Omron provides a 12-month warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
  • Omron disclaims all other warranties, including those of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
  • Omron's liability is limited to replacement, repair, or refund of the purchase price of non-complying products.
  • Omron is not liable for special, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Suitability of Use:
  • Omron is not responsible for conformity with standards, codes, or regulations in the buyer's application.
  • Buyers must ensure the product is suitable for their intended use and take application responsibility.

NomenclatureFront •Indicators Item •Setting Knobs Item Note: 1. Use either a solid wire of 2.5 mm2 maximum or a ferrule with insulating sleeve for the terminal connection. The length of the exposed current-carrying part inserted into the terminal must be 8 mm or less to maintain dielectric strength after connection. For 2.5 mm2 or For ferrules with smaller solid wires an insulation sleeve. Recommended ferrules Phoenix Contact • Al 1,5-8BK (for AWG16) • Al 1-8RD (for AWG18) • Al 0,75-8GY (for AWG18) 2. K8AK-VS Setting Method ●Setting Voltage The voltage knob (SV) is used to set the voltage. The voltage can be set to 10% to 100% of the maximum setting range. Turn the knob while there is an input to the input terminals until the alarm indicator flashes (when the set value and the input have reached the same level.) Use this as a guide to set the voltage. The maximum setting range will differ depending on the model and the input terminal. Example: K8AK-VS3 Using Input Terminal V3-COM The maximum setting range will be 600 VAC/VDC and the setting range will be 60 to 600 V. ●Hysteresis Hysteresis...

Checking Operation Overvoltages Gradually increase the input from 80% of the set value. The input will equal the operating value when the input exceeds the set value and the alarm indicator starts flashing. Operation can be checked by the relay outputs that will start after the operating time has passed. Undervoltage Gradually decrease the input from 120% of the set value and check the operation using the same method as for overvoltage. Example: Overvoltage Operating Mode and an Operating Time of 5 s Note: K8AK-VS@ output relays are normally operative. Set value Input voltage Flashing Alarm indicator...
