Material Overview: Fluoroloy® A15 is a proprietary custom PTFE material characterized by its dark gray color and soft texture. It is particularly effective for sealing at low pressures and offers good heat resistance. However, it can be abrasive when used against soft metals.
Temperature Range: The material operates effectively within a wide temperature range from -268°C to +316°C (-450°F to +600°F).
Physical Properties: The specific gravity of Fluoroloy® A15 is 2.23, and it has a hardness of 58 Shore D, as measured by ASTM D792 and ASTM D2240, respectively.
Mechanical Properties: The material exhibits a tensile strength of 23.4 MPa (3,400 psi) and an elongation of 230%. Its tensile modulus is 441 GPa (64,000 psi x 10⁵), and it has a compressive stress at 1% strain of 13.1 MPa (1,900 psi). The compressive modulus is 827 MPa (120,000 psi), and deformation under load is 8.5% at 2000 psi and room temperature.
Thermal Properties: The linear coefficient of thermal expansion is 12.9x10-5 mm/mm/°C (7.17x10-5 in/in/°F) in the mold direction and 9.35x10-5 mm/mm/°C (5.19x10-5 in/in/°F) in the cross direction, as per ASTM D696.
Tribological Properties: The coefficient of friction is 0.09, according to ASTM D3702.
Testing Conditions: All tests were conducted at room temperature unless specified otherwise. Compression strength was measured at 1% strain, and deformation under load was tested at 13.8 MPa (2,000 psi) for 24 hours.
