KMX-V Static Mixer Bulletin

KMX-V Static Mixer Bulletin

Product catalog summary
Kenics™ KMX-V Static Mixer Overview
The Kenics™ KMX-V Static Mixer is designed for high-performance blending in demanding applications, particularly where fluids have extreme viscosity or volume ratios. It offers superior mixing performance with features such as laminar flow, high-low viscosity mixing, cost-effectiveness, and compact design with standard diameters up to 24 inches.
Mixing Principle
The KMX-V mixer employs a unique mixing principle that involves cross-stream mixing and flow splitting. Each element is approximately one pipe diameter in length and consists of multiple intersecting blades. These blades generate fluid layers as the mixture flows downstream, enhancing mixing efficiency.
Performance Advantages
Lab tests demonstrate that the concave surfaces of the KMX-V elements promote more cross-stream flow compared to designs with flat blades. This feature is particularly beneficial in high viscosity ratio applications, where low viscosity additives are effectively sheared by strong cross-stream velocity gradients.
Comparison and Testing
Laser induced fluorescence (LIF) images show the cross-sectional uniformity achieved by the KMX-V mixer. The comparison of static mixers with different blade designs highlights the superior performance of the KMX-V mixer, especially in applications with a viscosity ratio of 53,000:1.

KMX-V Static Mixer Bulletin-1

Kenics™ KMX-V Static Mixer For demanding mixing applications, such as those involving fluids with extreme viscosity or volume ratios, the common limiting factor in static mixer design is the allowable mixer length. The KMX-V static mixer is the superior choice for these applications. Its patented element design offers the most efficient mixing performance. Exclusive Mixing Principle The KMX-V utilizes cross-stream mixing and flow splitting to achieve very rapid blending. Each element is approximately one pipe diameter in length and consists of multiple intersecting blades, which generate fluid layers as the mixture flows downstream. Lab tests have proven that the concave surfaces of the KMX-V element promote more cross-stream flow than competitive designs with flat blades. This feature enhances the performance of the mixer in tough high viscosity ratio applications. Sheets of low viscosity additives are driven along the trough of each blade and abruptly sheared by strong cross-stream velocity gradients as they pass around the upstream surface. Static Mixer Comparison, Viscosity Ratio = 53,000:1 High-performance blending for demanding applications. KMX-V static mixer features include: • Superior mixing performance • Laminar flow and high-low viscosity mixing • Cost effective solution • Short length • Standard diameters up to 24" KMX-V Mixer with Concave Blades Static Mixer with Flat Blades Laser induced fluorescence (LIF) images showing cross-sectional uniformity nov.com/mixing ©National Oilwell Varco - All rights reserved - Bulletin
