Air Spaced Polarizer

Air Spaced Polarizer

Air Spaced Polarizer

Product catalog summary
Introduction
SYNOPTICS’ Air Spaced Polarizer, initially designed for military specifications, is now available for commercial use. It serves as an alternative to calcite and Brewster-type polarizers, offering high transmission, high contrast ratio, excellent damage threshold, and resistance to extreme temperatures and humidity. It also minimizes beam deviation and wavefront distortion.

Advantages
The Air Spaced Polarizer provides higher transmission and better damage threshold compared to calcite polarizers and avoids the beam displacement seen in Brewster-type polarizers. It is ideal for high power polarization needs and is available for wavelengths of 1064, 1053, and 1047 nanometers.

Standard Specifications
  • Polarization Transmittance (TP): Type 1: > 98.0%, Type 2: > 97.5%, Type 3: > 97.0%
  • Contrast Ratio (TP / TS): > 500:1 for all types
  • Damage Threshold @ 1064 nm, 20 ns pulse: Type 1: 500 MW/cm2, Type 2: 500 MW/cm2, Type 3: 300 MW/cm2
  • Transmitted Wavefront Distortion @ 633 nm: Type 1 & 2: < 1/8, Type 3: < 1/4
  • Beam Deviation: Transmitted: Type 1: < 2 arc minutes, Type 2 & 3: < 3 arc minutes; Reflected: < 4 arc minutes for all types
  • Acceptance Angle: +0.5° to -0.5° for all types
  • Surface Quality (scratch-dig): Type 1: 20-10, Type 2: 40-15, Type 3: 60-20
  • Surface Reflectivity: Type 1: < 0.15%, Type 2 & 3: < 0.25%
  • Operating Temperature Range: -40°C to +70°C for all types
  • Standard Wavelength: 1064 nm for all types

Air Spaced Polarizer-1

Originally designed to conform to stringent military specifications, SYNOPTICS’ Air Spaced Polarizer is now being offered for commercial applications. The Air Spaced Polarizer is an alternative to calcite and Brewster-type polarizers which offers: High transmission (TP) High contrast ratio (TP / TS) Excellent damage threshold Resistance to temperature / humidity extremes Minimal beam deviation Wide acceptance angle Low wavefront distortion Air Spaced Polarizers exhibit higher transmission and better damage threshold than calcite polarizers and do not produce the unwanted beam displacement associated with Brewster-type polarizers. The logical choice for high power polarization needs, SYNOPTICS’ Air Spaced Polarizers are presently available for use at 1064, 1053 and 1047 nanometers
