Product catalog summary
Introduction
The Nor850 Distributed Multichannel System by Norsonic is a new concept in multichannel measurements, allowing users to connect individual measuring units through various communication channels to create an optimal system for any task. The system is controlled via a PC running Windows7.

Expandable System
The Nor850 system is expandable, initially offering two front-end choices: the Nor140 Sound Level Meter and the Nor850-MF1 mainframe, which can hold up to 10 measuring channels. Users can mix and match these units to create a tailored multichannel system. Future expansions include a dual-channel module for sound intensity measurements.

Nor850-MF1 Mainframe
The Nor850-MF1 mainframe operates on 230Vac or 12Vdc and connects to a PC via LAN or USB. It accommodates up to 10 slots with five module options, including standard measuring, TTL input/output, signal generator, RPM logging, and RS-232/RF control interfaces.

Flexibility and Software
The system's flexibility allows for both multichannel and individual unit operations, suitable for large laboratories. The Nor850 software, running on Windows7, includes a sensor database and supports various application packages, starting with Building Acoustics. Future packages will cover Sound Power, Vibration, and more.

Communication and Connectivity
The system supports LAN, USB, Bluetooth, and WLAN communication, ensuring digital data transfer and eliminating errors from long analogue cables. The software simplifies connectivity by automatically recognizing connected units.

Sensor Database and Calibration
The sensor database stores detailed information about measurement transducers and channels. Calibration data is logged and compared with historical values for accuracy. Users can assign unique names and colors to channels for easy identification.

Homologation and Simplicity
Units can be homologated by independent labs, and the software tracks verification dates. The user-friendly interface displays connected channels, allowing easy drag-and-drop into display windows for measurement tasks.

Measurement Setup and Execution
Measurement parameters are set in the Measurement Menu, including duration, resolution, and filtering. Calibration is performed via the Input Menu. Measurements are initiated with a Start button, and data is displayed in real-time.

Application Modules and Standards
The system includes application modules for efficient operation, starting with building acoustics. It supports preset measurement setups for standards like ASTM and ISO, with dedicated setup menus for building acoustics.

Intelligent Measurement Control
Operators can manage measurement channels and view vital data during tests. The system supports Level, Background, and Reverberation Time measurements, with results compared to previous data for validation.

Reporting
Measurement reports can be edited and printed or sent as PDFs, complying with standards like ISO-717.

PD 850 Ed.1 Rev.1 English 01.11 2 Expandable The multichannel system Nor850 may be expanded as the needs grow. At the time of introduction, Norsonic is offering two front end choices for the confi guration of the measuring channels in a multichannel system: - Nor140 Sound Level Meter - Nor850-MF1 mainframe containing 1-10 measuring channels Start with two units of the standardized Nor140 SLM’s and increase step-by-step by adding additional Nor140 units. Or, choose the multichannel Nor850-MF1 mainframe containing up to 10 measuring channels. The user may even set up a mix with a few Nor140 units...

PD 850 Ed.1 Rev.1 English 01.11 3 Flexibility The concept of individual units for each measuring channel offers a very high degree of operating fl exibility. It allows the user to operate a multichannel system one day – and many individual measuring units another day! No need to store away an expensive multichannel system for months until the next big project turns up! This fl exibility is very well suited for building up a complete measurement system for larger laboratories with many measurement rooms. By placing one or more measurement channels in each measurement room, the full system may...

PD 850 Ed.1 Rev.1 English 01.11 4 Sensor database In the heart of the Nor850 software there is a sensor database containing all possible information about each customer complete list of measurement transducers (microphones, accelerometers, etc.), measuring channels, serial numbers, producers, calibration values, verification laboratories, verification dates, correction data, etc. By first time use the operator must key-in these data tom the system. Next time, however, as soon as any of the known transducers and measuring channels is connected, all data are automatically available within the Nor850...

PD 850 Ed.1 Rev.1 English 01.11 5 Measurement setups The settings for the next measurement is done in the Measurement Menu which expands on the screen by a click on the Measurement tab. Within this menu, the operator sets the miscellaneous measurement parameters and functions. These include overall measurement duration, profile measurement resolution, filtering bandwidth, upper and lower frequency limitations, weighting networks, time constants, statistical percentiles, and finally the required measurement functions. Transducer calibration Prior to the measurement, each microphone or transducer...

PD 850 Ed.1 Rev.1 English 01.11 6 The application package for building acoustics is designed with two objectives in mind. Advanced laboratories with multiple test facilities require a system that offers great flexibility in the miscellaneous operational test tasks, including rapid setup of previous test procedures and the ability to use sophisticated measurement techniques. And yet the measurement system should be easy and efficient to use for the operators in order to produce test reports at the lowest possible number of man hours. Preset measurement Standards The system is delivered with preset...

PD 850 Ed.1 Rev.1 English 01.11 7 Intelligent measurement control The screen will show the operator all the vital data at any time during the sound insulation test. Simply start by dragging the available measurement channels into the Source- or Receivewindow. Then the system knows which measurement channels that deliver source-room results and which channels that deliver receiving-room results. The operator may even alternate channels between the two measurement rooms during the test without any undesired mix of measurement results! Before each individual measurement, the operator should select...
