Up-sizing, Downsizing or Standards. Many times the standard injection unit on an injection molding machine is not the correct size for all of the products and custom molders need to optimize their shot size and resin requirements. Sometimes it is necessary to downsize or upsize an injection unit so that the screw is operating in the 40% to 80% of the stroke range for best optimization of the injection profile of the machine. Nordson XALOY's engineers will look at your process data sheets and recommend the optimum injection unit size for the process parameters and the resin's rheology characteristics to optimize your operating conditions. Original Injection Unit Configuration Based on the optimum size that the process engineers have recommended, the Nordson XALOY design engineers will then design a completely new custom injection unit that consist of the following components; barrel, screw, non-return valve, endcap, endcap bolts, heaters, and barrel cover. This new unit will be delivered to your facility completely assembled with the heaters pre-wired and ready to be installed on your existing injection molding machine. Custom Downsized Injection Unit with Feed-Forward To optimize your process there are occasions when an injection unit needs to be downsized, and the carriage/ slide cannot be moved forward toward the stationary platen, then the feed hopper needs to be moved down- stream in order to maintain the best overall screw flighted length in order to optimize the residence time of the polymer being processed.
