Monitor and Control System Automatic flow monitoring to improve quality and reduce rejects in industrial drum coating applications. ■ Detects clogged bottom lid nozzles Detects paint flow on "disk application" to coat internal drums The Drum Works™ Monitor and Control System is an innovative easy to use, modular system for automatically monitoring spray guns and controlling nozzle pressure on steel industrial drum ap- plications. Providing valuable control and monitoring functions, the system can be used for two key drum finishing operations: ■ Exterior bottom lid coating is controlled and monitored with the basic DrumWorks technology. ■ Interior drum coating with a rotary atomizer is monitored using the DFC (Disc Flow Control) function in the Drum- Works system. Interior Coating with Rotary Atomizer The new Nordson DrumWorks system also measures the volume of paint that flows through a rotary atomizer (or disc) used to coat the interior of industrial drums. With the Disc Flow Control (DFC) function, the system automatically alerts users of operation outside the desired parameters. Its modular design fits new coating lines, and is an easy retrofit to existing systems. The system can monitor one or two internal coating systems. Master Control For both bottom lid and interior drum coating, the DrumWorks system incorporates an easy-to-use master control. It features a monochromatic touch screen that delivers real-time monitoring of settings, performances and alarms throughout the coating operation. This device provides several displays for operators to instantly view status of operating parameters, including ■ Calibration and spray pressure for guns 1 and/or 2 (additional guns optional) and DFC ■ High/Low pressure band Five languages can be selected on the touchscreen, including French, German, Spanish, Italian and English. The spray coating application on the external drum lid bottoms is typically difficult to control due to the location of the spray guns. Here, the guns are typically mounted in a hard-to-access position with overspray accumulating on the nozzle. The result is nozzle plugging or restricted flow, which adversely impacts the applied coating quality. In addition, because guns are hard to access, it also becomes difficult to determine when nozzles are worn. This results in excess coating application, causing increased material costs and quality issues. Drum manufacturers also experience lower productivity and increased costs due to improperly coated drums. The new Nordson DrumWorks System monitors the paint pressure at the nozzle (single or dual gun) and automatically alerts users in the event of operation beyond the desired parameters. The system's modular design fits new coating lines, and it is an easy retrofit to existing systems with all models of Nordson* airless guns.
